Aviation is expensive enough without Garmin planned obsolescence. I have an Aera 560 portable that no longer works, and became obsolete after about a year. Since it cost about 2K, that doesn't bode well for longevity and common dollar allocation sense.

So...if the chute pull was a result of inadequate flight planning or training, how much does the luxury of a parachute pull impact the rest of us in terms of increased insurance premiums??

He lost the ASI?? Did he turn on the pitot static heat? Didn't he look at the GS readout on his GPS? I have lost my ASI in IMC conditions, pitot heat failed over the very same mountains. Not being excessively critical, but wondering.

I had a similar problem after landing to pick up a friend and continue to our mutual destination. Upon engine restart, the GTX 345 transponder said it was not receiving position info from the GNS 430 (also no foreflight info). Shut off the master, and then it started working, any ideas?

While Garmin makes excellent products they sure are masters of planned obsolescence.
