I'm a little late to the game...but I know pilot who's flown with Kenmore Air (seaplane airport) for years now. I've known him since he was a youngster. Good kid. He's an exceptional pilot from my understanding. I can likely put you in touch if you think that would be a benefit to you.

When you say "nearby" how near are we talking? You could be blinded if you're too close, if that happens well... Assuming you weren't blinded and far away enough to not be affected by the blast...I'd b-line it 180 away from the blast and hope for the best. And pray you're not in a C152. :)

Hmmm...he may have a point (at least in his mind). A lot of times, advances in and use of technology do indeed make our lives safer and simpler. Which you can easily argue is a good thing as general rule. However, over reliance on technology isn't always such a good thing, because technology can...

Thanks! That's awesome you are so close to getting your PPL - hope that happens soon for you. I'll give Garmin Pilot a look. The Skylane would be a nice plane to own and it would (I believe) fit my mission profile very nicely. My biggest concern would be it's higher GPH fuel burn rate ($$$)...
