OK, that makes sense...the way I first read his post was I had to reach pattern altitude before turning crosswind. I was thinking "that's gonna take forever with the density altitude here at 5300' field elevation!". I should fully wake up before posting next time :D

Can you point me to that in the AIM? I'm a low-time student still and haven't come across that. At the airport I fly out of they gave us turn at 500' (or sometimes sooner if the tower tells us to turn early when able for traffic). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Good point. I'm quite a ways away from doing anything of the sort, but when the time comes I would definitely check with the rental.

Do people do the rescue stuff, young eagles, etc. using rental planes? Or is it strictly those with their own plane?

Really enjoyed my lesson today! Went out and did .5 hr under the hood (foggles) then introduced me to VOR and navigation. After reading/learning about it in my online course, seeing it in practice is SOOOO much better. And then ended the lesson with a pretty nice landing :D
