    Syrup

My grandfather worked at Maple Grove in Concord VT just east of St Johnsbury I LOVE MAPLE SYRUP! That stupid nasty "pancake syrup" needs to be banished from the earth.

Why doesn't my airconditioner come on immediately every time

My T-stat is similar to yours. It has learned the rate that my house naturally cools or heats based on outside temperature reported by the nearest NWS station and calculates whether it needs to do anything to reach the desired temperature at the desired time. It also has occupancy sensors in...

    NA Typical paycheck waiting time

I'm salary and paid twice a month. It's either the 1st &15th or the 1st & 30th, I can never remember. If either of those days falls on a weekend or a holiday (or February) then it is deposited the Friday prior. That doesn't answer your question but from previous jobs what you've posted is...

Why doesn't my airconditioner come on immediately every time

That's more a function of design of the speed control method rather than AC vs DC but I'll concede that I was coming at it from an Electrical Engineers perspective while in the air conditioning world they probably don't. In large motors, DC motors are less efficient that AC squirrel cage motors...

    Dual Instruction Requirements

Tight budget and flying don't go together... It's an expensive proposition and you will spend a lot of money, most likely more than your initial estimate.

Why doesn't my airconditioner come on immediately every time

What? AC vs DC has nothing to do with cost to run...

Why doesn't my airconditioner come on immediately every time

This is pretty much it. It's also called hysteresis. Essentially a time delay or dead band meant to prevent it from cycling too frequently. Older thermostats would use resistor/capacitor circuits as timers and there are variations in them. New thermostats likely use integrated circuits which...

    (NOT) contributing to 401k

Year to date returns for me are 9.9% and it's 9% over last 5 years. But I'm young (29) and I'm invested in very high risk funds. A mix of small cap, international, and some large cap. I contribute 13% going to 15% next year plus the company matches 4.5% and does a 3% bonus annually to it that...

Getting questions answered quickly on POA

Solo time is important. Very important to measure how long until solo.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Today we did mostly hood work and unusual attitudes with some basic navigation using the GPS to get out of an issue when accidentally IFR. After that we went to KSPG (Albert Whitted), a beautiful airport and one of the few where the public voted to keep it open rather than close it. Not only...

A brush with the TSA today...

And they never will be again but it won't be because of TSA.

A brush with the TSA today...

It's exactly the same argument you are using. You can't prove a negative. IE: TSA works because there hasn't been an attack. That is impossible to prove and is bad logic. What is possible to prove is that the TSA when tested FAILS to stop 95% of contraband from being brought onto an...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Close. KTPF. I've flown over PIE when we went through TPA's Bravo on our way to the beach in an earlier lesson. Was really cool how accommodating the Bravo ATC guys were. They even offered to give us traffic advisories outside of their airspace while we went up and down the beach.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Also did another short lesson to do more short and soft field practice. I serious struggle with the short field landings. I think it's because it's a little slower and steeper approach and just wants to come down firmer than I like. After a number of tries I did better, still quite firm but I...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Well I missed one week due to a family vacation but it was a great time. The lesson was to solo from another airport so we departed from KTPF (Peter O Knight) and went over to KPCM (Plant City) and did two landings. They were good enough for my instructor to hop out and tell me to go to the...

Something about you that not many here may know

My current car is a Ford Focus ST. Six speed manual pushing just shy of 300HP running on an ethanol fuel mix. Fun fun! My daily driver is an old pos that is an automatic but I work in mining and it's rough on cars so I don't care as long as it runs and has air conditioning.

Manual transmissions forever! I can't stand automatics especially in anything remotely sporty.

Something about you that not many here may know

I earned my Eagle Scout Rank on my 18 birthday. I've hiked over 100 miles in 10 days carrying all my food and supplies. Done the same thing but in a canoe in Canada. I'm a test tube baby. My sister and I have the same father though. I met my wife in middle school. I've been in many places...
