Had my first solo XC planned for this afternoon. Winds were 17-24 approx 40* off the runway. Didn’t wait for my CFI to scrub it. I called it off at 9am. Am I bummed? A little, but I made the right call.

The scrapes on the tarmac along with the damage to the underside of the engines doesn’t leave much doubt his gear wasn’t down regardless of what caused the alarm to sound.

I’ll be doing a short XC (Livermore to Petaluma and back) Friday. Will be going right past CCR. Will have to remember to dial it in.

Could a sudden wind shift have caused the drop in airspeed and subsequent stall? As a 25 hr student I often think about this turning base to final. I tend to watch my speed like a hawk.

Did you research Lancaster Before deciding to move there? It can get pretty sketchy. If you don’t mind driving, the Santa Clarita Area has a better quality of life and not too far away. Not flying related, but wanted to mention it.

My CFI taught me to make a left turn spiral down as fast as safely possible to extinguish the fire and not have the prop funnel the smoke into the windshield.

I I got the “whoop whoop, terrain, pull up” to work as my ringtone. You have to download the mp3 then stick it in Garage Band (assuming its an IPhone), then export it as a ringtone. There’s a YouTube vid that explains it.
