    Hating the new Weather Underground

Reminds me of the new AWC page so far. Not a huge fan of the change on either, but so far I've been able to find all the info I'm looking for.

    Taking Pax if asked.

Nope. I'll ask about any previous experience they've had, try to figure out their general attitude towards flying. If I don't know them that well I'll be feeling out their personality. Absolutely, and I'll usually throw in lunch at the airport. If it's someone's first time in a small...

    Best / Worst Aviation movie

Best - One Six Right Worst- Can't decide between Flyboys or Red Tails. Technically, Flight was pretty bad from a pilot's standpoint, but the overall story was good enough that I can't put it down that much.

    Did I wait to long?

Definitely keep working at it, radio work gives almost everyone trouble. Biggest thing that helped me was listening to liveatc.net in my free time to get used to the comms flow at my local airport. You'll get there, just takes some time to get into the flow of things.

    Good XC Destinations Around Denver

Awesome museum, did my solo XC to Pueblo and spent the day walking around there. Felt pretty weird going from the cockpit of a LSA to sitting left seat in their B-29.

    Good XC Destinations Around Denver

Yep, flying the Goboshes at Aspen. If I could swing the rental fees to take 77K to Oshkosh I'd be signing up for that in a heartbeat. I'll have to look into Raton, I've heard a bit about their FBO. Good advice on the flyouts too, I've been waiting for one that'll work with my schedule, but...

    Flight sims, worth it?

FSX helped a lot with getting familiar with the basics before I was in training, but now I really only use it for entertainment. Though flying A2A's Boeing 377 down to minimums in a snowstorm while the passengers in back panic never gets old  Definitely don't regret spending the money...

Do you have personal minimums related to other pilots with whom you would ride?

Couple years ago the DPE I did my checkride with was doing a checkride, and they lost two blades of the prop. The plane remained in the student's control through the entire emergency landing. I've got no doubt he would have jumped in had he seen something dangerous developing, but as far as an...

    Show & Tell Airshow

Definitely deserves a story. Nicely done, OP

Do you have personal minimums related to other pilots with whom you would ride?

Fair point, though I disagree on being that dismissive towards a low hour pilot. In my case, I'm a 50 hour pilot, and if another pilot refused a flight solely on my hours it would have me questioning whether I have any business taking non-rated passengers up. I've learned a lot from flying with...

    Lessons from Checkride

Congrats on the checkride! Good advice too. One other bit of advice when it comes to the oral - if the DPE doesn't ask for more information, don't give it to them. Felt like I was digging myself into a hole a few times from trying to over-explain things.

I'm not rich - how do I get regular access to a plane?

Aside from looking at buying, during flight training you might come across someone who's willing to let you build time in their plane. I didn't expect anything like that, but after I passed my checkride, my instructor starting offering to split time in a Sundowner for nothing but the cost of...

    New member here

Welcome to the forums, and good luck with training. Awesome to see someone starting out at 16, took me a couple more years than that of hanging on the fence before I was in a position to start training.

    Good XC Destinations Around Denver

Thanks for the suggestions, have to check them all out. I'd been looking at Platte Valley to get some experience on a 40' wide runway, had no idea they had a WWI museum there. All the more reason to head up there.

    Always follow the POH.

Early Skyhawk? Seems to fit with the land-o-matic gear they started promoting back in the late 50's.

Can someone recommend some good aviation novels?

Another vote for Flight of Passage - Rinker Buck. Tied with Wind, Sand, and Stars and Fate is the Hunter for my favorite aviation book. Ace of the Iron Cross by Ernst Udet's a pretty good book about World War I flying. If you're into historical fiction, Jeff Shaara's To The Last Man is...

    Good XC Destinations Around Denver

Passed my sport checkride recently and realized after a few trips to Meadow Lake that I want to get some more experience on shorter/narrower strips- most of my trips in training were to Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Any recommendations for cool airports within 150nm of Centennial to check out...
