    Stinging Insect Rant

Yeah, I know, underwear won't stop a scorpion sting, but it packages things up nicely, thus reducing vulnerable body parts from dangling about and providing additional target areas.

    Stinging Insect Rant

Although I'm not fond of their mud nests, I like having mud daubers living in my garage because they kill any black widows that dare try to make it their home, too. I discovered this when we had our house remodeled and had to leave our garage doors open much more than usual. I started finding...

    Bicyclist rant

If you're talking about Cyclefest and Hammerfest, I used to participate in those back in my "serious" cycling days. It was mostly Permian Basin-area cyclists back then. The mountains are very challenging and great fun for cycling. I never had the juevos to descend at 70 mph like some of those...

    Stinging Insect Rant

I used to - I repeat USED TO - sleep in the buff. That was until a night about 25 years ago I was stung twice on the upper inside of my thigh (not far from my "business") by a scorpion in the bed. I went from sound asleep to standing beside the bed in a milli-second, yelling to my wife that I'd...

Curious: The Most Ratings, Licenses, Endorsements A Pilot Can Have

I got all I need with PP-SEL VFR. I'm now a left-seater on Pakistani commercial flights and - pardon the expression - living the dream.

What's the benefit of the 912iS over the 912ULS?

    That's no fun!

What's the benefit of the 912iS over the 912ULS?

The hardest part is having to get so close to a spinning prop. Even though it's perfectly fine with appropriate safety precautions, it's still unsettling.

What do you say on radio if you're flying a rare plane?

Years ago, when I owned a 1957 Skylane, the tower asked me to confirm aircraft type as I was rolling out after landing. I answered, "Cessna 182 Skylane." Evidently he wasn't familiar with a straight-tail Cessna.

What do you say on radio if you're flying a rare plane?

When I fly my Aerotrek LSA, its type designation is "EFOX" (for Euro Fox). My Flight Design CTLS designator is "FDCT." When I call for flight following, I often must repeat myself to ATC because those aren't very common types. I tried saying "experimental" and "light sport" to make it easy, but...

[NA] where are we on fish oil supplements?

We make our own from the salmon we raise in our backyard pond. We just run'em through a mop bucket wringer when we run low low on oil.

Intentional is beginning to cross my mind as well, although I really hate to speculate to that degree.

    Gyroplane on the brain

Hey, I didn't notice the first time that you were part of the by-line - nice work!

    Gyroplane on the brain

That EAA article is what rekindled my interest. The trailing link nose gear is a nice feature on the Silverlight.

    Gyroplane on the brain

Yep. Like flying airplanes, if you fly it within its performance parameters and don't push the limits, then there's little worry of unloading the rotor.

    Gyroplane on the brain

Am I insane to have gyroplane on my brain? Most everything I read about them is positive, and they look positively fun - and safe. I'm surprised they aren't more popular. I need to get off my ass and go check one out in person, maybe catch a ride, before the year is over.

    I Hate the Weather

You think you hate the WX now, wait until after you get your ticket and have to cancel a flying trip you were really excited about due to WX. And, of course, it'll happen after many days of great flying WX, but turn ugly on the day you planned to depart. It's the Law of VFR.
