    Luscombe Road Trip—Wish me luck!

I took time to catch up on this saga this morning and enjoyed every post and pic. It's very inspiring! As a west Texas dweller, I'm quite familiar with Jal and Pecos (and all the God-forsaken country in between). I've also made a couple of flights over to Guadalupe Peak to see the sights (I've...

    The watch made for pilots

No watch "made for pilots" is worth a frick unless it contains a BRS.

    Pilot Personalities

I scored a 3.4 horsepower on the Myers-Briggs-Stratton test. It also revealed my personality type to be AHOL.

Looks like a homebuilt, but what is it?

I enjoy perusing old WFAA news footage from the SMU Jones Collection on YouTube and ran across some footage of a feller flying an apparent homebuilt in 1970. I can't quite make out the N-number. Can anyone ID this aircraft? It's at the 15:59 mark (and if you want to see an interview with Frank...

Relatively low-maintenance airplanes that have decent cross-country performance?

Flight Design CTLS. It's an LSA with two seats, BRS, 110-115-knot cruise speed, cruise fuel burn 4-5 gallon per hour, range in excess of 600 miles, ultra-reliable 100HP Rotax 912 which burns either 91-octane E10 auto gas or 100LL avgas, has a wide comfy cabin, and will carry 110 lbs of baggage...

How do you cover for ineptness

No one knew this but me since I wasn't in D, C, or B airspace. I was a new pilot and was testing out my newfangled aviation GPS. I'd chosen to track to another area airport, KINK, but instead had the GPS tracking to INK - a VOR. There I was, like a doofus, flying in a circle wondering "where's...

    Flat Nosewheel Tire Rant

I've had several flats. One was upon landing in a 172 (no harm done) and the others have been while taxiing in LSAs. Repairing them is similar to fixing flats on my bicycles, just on a heavier scale. Flat fixing, whether on bikes or planes, is a PITA every time!

How to best convey to ATC what I am flying.

I go ahead and give ATC my identifier code because I know they're going to ask: "FDCT."

Ok, which one of you flew under the Mackinac bridge?

I don't think he flew under it. Need better proof than that to convince me. Myself, I've piloted boats under big bridges many times, but no one made a fuss about it.

    FB **** Show!

Despite the irritation and consternation it causes, I continue following friends and relatives with extreme political positions on both ends of the spectrum because it provides a daily lesson on how bat-**** crazy seemingly "normal" people can be. I have FB "friends" who have achieved much in...

    Hobbies other than flying

Heh, yeah it's not cheap, but it actually makes more common to sense to me to own my Cyclete vs. owning my airplane.

Check your cowl after any work

I know a guy who had an overheating problem on his first flight after annual, so he diverted to the nearest airport. Upon removing the cowling, he found the mechanics JACKET.

Finding Airports that sell 91 Octane Mogas?

I've been flying behind a Rotax 912 for 7 years. I use 91 octane E-10 at my home field and fill up with 100LL on cross country flights. And I don't worry about it because you simply will not find 91 octane available at airports. Just ease your mind and eliminate that option from your planning...
