    Rant-People on vacation

We have enough locals who meander around town going 20-25 mph in 35-mph zones. I can't imagine adding tourists to that equation.

who has right of way, backtaxi vs landing aircraft?

I choose to read only when it reaches 30 pages. Doesn't mean shinola before then.

Near ready to pull the trigger on a Flight Design CTLS. Thoughts?

Mine's a 2018 with the 912 iS (great engine!), and we really enjoy it. Plenty of baggage space, wide comfy cabin, fantastic range, decent cruise speed of 110-120 kts, BRS, and burns E10 mogas. I put a little piece of tape on the edge of the glareshield as a reference for landing. Now I don't...

Gratuitous Grumman Aerobatics in this old TV show

Watching an episode of Mannix would've been the very last thing I expected to be doing this morning.

By chance, is her middle name "Fokker?"

    Do pilots still navigate?

A friend of mine has a 172 with an old ADF that still works well. I think that's the simplest, coolest back-up nav instrument in existence.

First solo in variable winds - embarrased

My worst landings happen on the rather calm "variable winds" kind of days.

Black Jelly Bean Rant [N/A obviously]

The only way I could possibly stomach a licorice jelly bean would be to wrap it in an entire tin of anchovies, toss it in my mouth, and then try not to chew too thoroughly so I never actually bite into the foul, repugnant black bean.

    Pellet Grills

I love my MAK 2-Star General pellet grill. The only con is it's a chore to clean, which I do after about a dozen cooks (more less, depending on what I've been cooking). If I want high heat, then I use my trusty Weber charcoal grill.

    Fly and Bike

In 2007, I managed to stuff a recumbent bicycle and camping gear into my C-182A - without removing any seats - and fly to ride the Hotter N' Hell 100 in Wichita Falls, TX.

    Spitfire

A year ago, my wife and I were in the process of planning a trip to Duxford aerodrome to see the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain airshow to be held in September 2020. And then... well, you know the rest of the story. :mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:

Got first doze of Pfizer today

My first miserable night on the day of Pfizer #2, I not only had aches n' pains, but also had weird, fitful dreams. Most prominent was dreaming that ants were in the bed and the pillow I was laying on was a dog - no kidding! It was so real that when I got up to pee I had to take stock of my...

Got first doze of Pfizer today

First Pfizer dose was a non-event. Second dose last Wednesday kicked my butt for about 48 hours - like having a medium-grade flu and fatigue. I felt like someone had beaten me with a cheater pipe!

    Are Pilots Better Auto Drivers?

I think being a long-time road bicyclist has made me a better driver, and being a pilot has made me a better humble-braggart.

Flight following - not sure why I didn't use it before

I use FF only when flying a longer XC in which I'll be traversing and/or arriving in congested/controlled airspace. Makes arrival smoother when already in the system. However, if I'm just up burning gas for the hell of it, I never use FF.

    Starting to prefer low-wings...

I once carved a gutter down the middle of my bald head from walking into the trailing-edge of my old 182. I stumbled forward to my knees, things went dim for a moment, then came the pain and trickling blood. I turned to look, and there was about a 4-inch strip of skin still dangling from the edge.
