I never thought of Sully as an advocate for GA, but I'm glad to see that he is one.

Former Anheuser-Busch CEO fails sobriety test / helicopter

He also had prescription bottles for Xanax and Klonopin with his name on them in the helicopter. Both are prohibited drugs. Seeing as how he got a 1st class medical last month, it would be a pretty safe bet that he falsified his MedXpress.

Former Anheuser-Busch CEO fails sobriety test / helicopter

Just a stupid reference to the video game "Grand Theft Auto" that he mentions in the last sentence. This wasn't exactly the best news source for this story.

Former Anheuser-Busch CEO fails sobriety test / helicopter

He managed to get a 1st class medical last month with no SI. I'm assuming that either his medical or pilot certificate will be suspended very soon.

    R44 into IMC?

It's not always impossible depending on the skills of the pilot. I had a CFI that had an engine seize at 500 AGL after takeoff. He immediately pushed the nose down hard and threw it into a 60 degree bank. He made it back to the runway he just came from with enough energy to float halfway down...

Alaska couple committed suicide by plane, investigators say

I have read about a few incidents of suicide by airplane that were clear cut because the pilot made comments to ATC just prior that made it obvious the crash was intentional. Most of them involved a pilot with a terminal illness. Very sad but I can't blame them for preferring to leave this world...

Cataract in one eye - what lens?

Mine got me corrected to 20/20 and that's from uncorrected vision that's literally off the chart since I can't even read the "E" at the top.

Cataract in one eye - what lens?

My ophthalmologist does all the tests himself. He doesn't have any techs. The 1 vs 2 thing can be hard. With some of them one is obviously better than the other, and some you really can't tell, but others you think one is a little better than the other but you're not sure. My ophthalmologist...

Cataract in one eye - what lens?

I didn't know that was an option. I have high myopia too (very high, my contact lens prescription is -10.50 in each eye). I am not eligible for LASIK since I have lattice degeneration. I'll have to look into doing what you did.

    R44 into IMC?

Agreed. I didn't mean to imply that it's impossible to survive in IMC in an R44. It's just that VFR into IMC seems to frequently end very badly for pilots in stable airplanes that can be flown hands off when trimmed. I'm under the impression that VFR into IMC would be several times more...

    R44 into IMC?

No the R44 is definitely not IFR certified under any circumstances. Unlike most airplanes, helicopters are inherently unstable. Let go of the cyclic and you're in an unusual attitude in seconds. This means that VFR into IMC is much more dangerous than in any airplane. IFR helicopters cost...
