    KSAN Pirep

Went Cameron park to San Diego at 11500’ made ~150 knots GS the whole way there! Transponder was seconds over 3 hours landing at San In a piper Archer I think that was really good! Last time I was there I used Montgomery but my destination was closer to there. Honestly, I’m using the plane for...

    KSAN Pirep

My Archer burned 28 gallons of gas to get there so yes, a little more than 20 gallons of fuel. Meeting was a 6 minute Lyft ride from signature. Google maps suggests 17 minutes right now from Montgomery, at 9am in the morning I’m sure that would push to 30. Being that I was only there for about 3...

    Combining Checkrides

I would think you can get them in the same day. Examiner would probably do two flights and the remaining things that didn’t overlap you would do again. I would think it would be cheaper to do the instrument in a SEL plane then do the multi add-on after.

    Check your Arrows...

That’s why we buy planes with two wings. So if one fails we have a second.

    Bo vs. Arrow

To the original post. I passed an Arrow yesterday. It was making 118 knots and I was making 130 knots. I don’t know what power setting they were using but we were both covering over 150nm.... I fly a piper Archer. I wouldn’t even consider a v35 comparable to an Arrow

    IFR for blowing dust

I landed in Raton, NM once when the asos was reporting very close to that. Went to less than a half mile within 15 minutes of landing. That weather came in 3-4 hours before it was forecasted and there aren't really a whole lot of other options around those parts. Gotten there 15 minutes later I...

    KSAN Pirep

I had business yesterday in Downtown San Diego, meeting at 9am. San Diego International was the only airport that made any sense to use. I've flown into Class B airports in the past but in faster airplanes and there were longish taxi/wait times. I typically try to avoid that if I can especially...

Flying Drone inside the Class Charley airspace

Is your drone registered? Hard to not know that rule if you registered the drone, they practically force the info onto you. Every drone over .55 pounds needs to be registered ($5) https://www.faa.gov/dronezone/ Also, it is easy for a pilot to get the sUAS certificate which allows you to fly part...

    Approach to closed runway?

Day after I got my instrument rating it was an 600’ overcast IMC day and I got to fly the loc 4 approach. Wind typically gusts very strong in the spring from the west. That is probably why they chose to work on the main runway during the spring. I’d imagine in the rare event they need to use 8...

    NOAA sanctuary regulations

Ya well I was “asking for a friend” who had an oh pretty moment, followed by a whoops there are red dots with a noaa note need to leave moment. Note, Garmin doesn’t put those on the GTN. Garmin doesn’t care about the NOAA or the environment.

AOPA Lists Top 10 "Airport Access Watch List"

KSFO should be on this list. Only public airport in all the western states that is prohibitively expensive to fly into. Even more expensive than LAX or single runway SAN

    GTN SD cards

Be careful using greater than 8gb cards. Those can give a hassle. I have found that SanDisk ultra 8GB cards work perfect, they are literally 6 bucks. Just be aware that a real Dick of an inspector can tag you for not using the Garmin ones... the Nav data is loaded to the memory in the GTN itself...

I know a guy that accidentally flew 500ft through the no fight operations area near Monterey. How do they enforce that?

    C182 vs PA-28 cabin width

I don’t have that issue in my 1979 archer and I have a big butt

    C182 vs PA-28 cabin width

Well the 182 gets about 135 true and the archer gets 126 true. The 182 is kept at full fuel and my archer is kept at the tabs. The flight is also only 60nm. It is easier to get the archer into landing config and can be on a one mile final making cruise speed and still land no problem. Maybe I’m...

Does foreflight seem to be getting slower?

The newest iOS update has a battery life thing and it will tell you if the iPad is running slower due to the battery. May be your issue

    C182 vs PA-28 cabin width

I have a PA28 and in a club with two 182’s. I gave a lot of time in both. The PA28 is more comfortable when I’m floating around by myself and one of my most flown flights I actually fly faster in my fixed pitch PA28 variant than I do the 182 but that is for another thread. If I am taking someone...
