What I learned today. Things snowball.

This morning I had a meeting in the Sacramento foothills. I was running a little bit behind but still made time to preflight and stuff. Then right as I put the tow bar on nose to pull the plane out of the sun shade a Tesla rolls up to a hangar down my row and starts to pull a cirrus out of the...

Want To Buy WTB small 2 seat aircraft. Specifics within

M20C or E. Absolute best bang for the buck and with max 2 people its perfect. For the price of a poorly equipped 172, you can get a m20c with autopilot, GPS, the whole thing! And the mechanical gear makes the complex thing way less of an issue. check out mooneyspace

How to do an unnecessary procedure turn?

"Procedure turn means the maneuver prescribed when it is necessary to reverse direction to establish the aircraft on an intermediate or final approach course. The outbound course, direction of turn, distance within which the turn must be completed, and minimum altitude are specified in the...

How to do an unnecessary procedure turn?

Great! And help me out here while I put all the puzzle pieces together. So if someone asks the controller “hey man can I go straight in” and the controller says anything other than “I need you to do the procedure turn” you aren’t breaking any Fars? That was my question to Astro and he said that...

Just curious, what is the FAR would you be breaking if you did go straight in?

How to do an unnecessary procedure turn?

Remember, you can always ask the ATC controller. "Can I get a straight in?" The worst thing that will happen is the controller telling you they can't approve that. Communication with ATC solves most PT questions.

    Mountain Flying Checkout

“I passed a mountain course” can create a false sense of ability. Time is better spent with an experienced guy pointing out all the places his buddies crashed, and telling you how he’s still here.

    Mountain Flying Checkout

OP, why do you need a cfi? Take a friend with mountain flying experience on an airport tour through the Maxwell MOA. Hit Dinsmore, Ruth, and gravelly valley. You’ll figure out the mountain flying stuff quick. Go to south lake on a warm day if you want to experience density altitude.

Help Me Understand TAA - IFR Written Answer Seems Wrong

Really bad answers because there is nothing wrong with answer #1 either... if they wanted you to cross bemxi at 4600, the plate wouldn’t say at or above

Help Me Understand TAA - IFR Written Answer Seems Wrong

I don’t see why the answer they gave is wrong? You absolutely can stay at 7000 feet and wait to descend in the hold. There is nothing wrong with that unless the controller instructs otherwise. and I can think of various weather reasons why someone may opt for that. What were the other 3 options

getting IFR ATC proposed notification on Pilot

After a few “we don’t have anything on file for you”s, they’ll figure out the callsign is wrong. Sort of annoying in the meantime though

    VG's

I my buddies Duke, the VGs winglets and tail cone thing make the plane fly significantly better. When the plane was advertised some of the marketed abilities were deadly if an engine went out. With those three things added an engine out is just an expensive inconvenience. Haven’t thought about...

Keep me from writing a Chief Councils Letter for interpretation...

That is true. I have wondered the same thing. If they push small aircraft around for jets too much nobody is going to want to talk to them. Then they’ll have a handful of small aircraft crossing over their airspace at 4500-5500. It’s not our job to save the airlines money. At least for now...

Keep me from writing a Chief Councils Letter for interpretation...

Now going into double eagle airport once (KAEG) the ABQ Approach Controller (not center, approach) dropped me after I had entered the class D extension. The tower blasted me. He said that he does not have a line to the APP controller and I shouldn’t have entered his airspace. “How is a transient...
