    stripped torque screw

Place valve grinding compound in the end of the tool. I have used this on stripped screws and nuts. It really works well.

    Severe weather - OKC 2015

I sat through way to many tornados passing through the OKC area. One big storm lifted the roof off of our huge hangar. The roof slammed back down and showered the airplanes below with small rocks and gravel. One Navajo ended up with a broken windshield.

    Crapsman Tool Boxes

I've always had Snap-on boxes and tools. For me it's their support. I don't have to go anywhere, they fix it or replace it at the next visit. Snap-on doesn't always make the perfect tool for the job. Most of my guys in the shop bought from the truck. This made it easy if we had a job go very...

What kind of quick drain is this?

The service difficulty reports are littered with reports of owners putting a standard drain valve on Arrows and making an auto oil drain system. Gear up, drain valve opens. There isn't enough room for anything else. The FAA issued a memo about this a number of years ago

What kind of quick drain is this?

That's the special Piper quick drain that uses a drain tube adapter. I just looked at mine in my tool box the other day. There is usually an empty clip where it used to be stowed but time mechanics run off with them. I bought the straight and 90 degree adaptors.

    AZ Helicoil problem

I have had a lot of luck using a file to repair the thread. When that attempt failed I sent the cylinder away.

    Window Annual Inspection Sticker

I've got my NH use sticker stuck to my 172. It didn't take long for them to find me parked on their soil. I tried everything to get out of it because the airplane is still registered in KS and I live in MA. They wouldn't back down. I guess it's still pretty cheap compared to most aviation expenses.

Need pre-buy inspection of a straight tail 172, KSEE, San Diego Area

There is a do it yourself maintenance hangar available at Gillespie if you need it. I wish I didn't have another job waiting after my Meridian pre-buy at Gillespie on April 3 at High Performance. It would fun to look through an older 172 again.

    Purchasing advice

Anyone have a loved 172L or M they want to get rid of? I do! I need to get my 1977 172N annual done and listed. If interested please send a PM. Great airplane. My 3 kids got their PP in it. I'm just not using it since I brought it up to MA.

    Edsel

I pull my lifters out of my H2AD engine every other year. No problems yet but it does have the Ney oil lubrication mod done to the case. Anybody interested in another 1977 C172 with an H2D engine? Have no idea what to ask yet. Garmin 650, airbag seat belts, very good original paint and...

What is the most annoying part about purchasing your own aircraft?

The hardest part for me was on the Malibu. There was still a lien on the airplane from the company that sold him the plane. Small, but still there. This could be an issue when I sold some day. The owner had no idea. Also this company was gone and the guy was dead. It took a while but the seller...

    Getting ready to sell

It looks like my house here in MA will be my hobby for the next few years. I still have the added burden of our KS house too. The youngest took it over, I guess it beats the price of a dorm room. It looks okay to not have that "I can't live without flying feeling that I had when I was young.

    Getting ready to sell

I work on aircraft every day and love it. I really hoped that my interest in flying would return after selling the shop, but it didn't. I went in expecting to use the Malibu a lot but it only flew about 60 hrs the last year I owned it. It was probably cheaper to charter. My wife still tells me...

    Getting ready to sell

I think it's time to re-think my aircraft ownership. My poor 172 hasn't had any use since I had it brought out to me 18 months ago. In hind sight I should have left it back in KS so my youngest would at least be flying it. I just need to find the time when I'm at home to get the annual done so I...

    Crash in Argyle/Denton

I've wondered if Bill's belt was on. Many of the times he brought his Mirage in for work at KHUT it would be completely full of boxes of papers. We called it the airborne office. We talked on the phone just a couple weeks before his crash. It was always good to hear from him. I always had to...

    Twin down near KDTO

Bill was one of my old customers he was a great guy. He owned at least 3 PA46 aircraft over the years. I just talked with him about 3 weeks ago. He would show up at KHUT with his Mirage packed full of papers and files. I'm getting tired of seeing these people die.
