    Thinking about a rental property

Funny thing running into this thread. We are selling my FIL house to some kids that were friends with our kids. Long story short, there is a 2 month period they will rent until the closing. Lo and behold, they call up and the dishwasher isn't draining. Went over there and fiddled for an hour...

    Death of the Corvette

I grew up in a time when every guy knew how to use a clutch. I've always though manual was a better way to go, but over time, automatics became faster and more fuel efficient. I miss the idea of manual transmissions, but IMO their time is coming to an end in modern production cars. It's...

    No Gyro Approach

I agree. I did one during my training, and yeah, ATC pretty much has to keep work with you one on one.

still chasing oil leak near prop. opinions appreciated.

It turned out to be a combination of both seals. The last repair slowed it down but photos revealed steaks coming from the front. It also eventually stopped. We surmised it was oil that wasn't completely removed when it was reassembled. The last person spent a lot of time cleAning the...

    Atlanta Pilots Fulton County Question

I live in middle GA and have flown into KRYY and KPDK numerous times for various reasons. I've never flown into FTY or any airport on the west side except Falcon Field in Peachtree City. I don't know if that means anything but it may indicate that most out of town pilots have little reason to...

PA-28-140 and 180 rear seat room?

I can't give you a solid answer, but I used a 180 for a year or two. The back seat is tight IMO for an adult. If you go a few years newer, Piper stretched the fuselage on their arrows and cherokees. Five more inches maybe?

PIREP My total cost for PPL 2018/2019

My first instructor was a guy in his 70's, and he flew for years using microphones and speakers. That dude was spitting distance from being deaf.

PIREP My total cost for PPL 2018/2019

What are DPEs charging nowadays? My PPL was $300, IR was $400 and multi was either 4 or 500 starting 9 years ago.

    VFR only and ownership

that's a 100% personal decision IMO. I have a buddy that flies a LOT, and he's vfr only. I have a pretty set work schedule, so I can't afford to be clouded in on Sunday; it wouldn't work for me. I like the idea of having my own plane. It just depends on whether it's worth it to you or not.

    Top of the market?

Is it so much that things are peaking, or just getting back to where they were prior to the '08 recession? IMO it seems that plane values sunk and stayed flat for years. It seems that only in recent years have values gone up much. With airplanes being discretionary spending for most people...

    Approach or Departure?

My CFII got me in the practice of using departure when making first call to ATC when leaving the departure airport. That's the only time I do it. I know it's probably the least important aspect of the flight, but it's just the way I was trained and it stuck.
