    Lost comm Question

I’m reviewing for my instrument check ride and was going over lost comm procedures which I think I have a solid grasp of. However I haven’t got a good answer for what you would do if your were cleared to land at towered airport and then lost comms. (Assiniboine actual iMac weather conditions) I...

Unusual Attitude in IMC during IFR Checkride?

That’s is correct and it’s allowed under the regulations: §61.47 b) The examiner is not the pilot in command of the aircraft during the practical test unless the examiner agrees to act in that capacity for the flight or for a portion of the flight by prior arrangement with: (1) The applicant...

    METAR query

So I’ve been trying to find the answer and I have been unsuccessful. Sample metar: 282335Z AUTO 15013KT 10SM SCT039 25/18 A2985 RMK AO2 T02500181 I get everything up to and including AO2. However Even with translation from raw data and I can’t find out what the last code means - TO2500181...

    Tie Down Fees

Main Street is probably used by everybody - I’m pretty sure the vast majority of towns people do not use the airport. Unless the airport is set up to help the local economy it is nothing more than a nice convenience for local pilots but a drain on local taxpayers - especially in a small town...

    Old topic, new story...MOAs

Pretty mind boggling that a bonanza is at 14,500 and not talking to ATC AND flying through an MOA. Seems like that’s just asking for a problem. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Tie Down Fees

It has to be related to the municipalities expenses. So, what are taxes, etc. divided by number of available tiedown spots. I know nearby they charge $50/month but they have an FBO, fuel, lights, approaches. Can’t imagine it should be much. What happens with extra money above the town’s costs...

Plane crash- not even sure what to say

I’m not sure what to make of this. It will no doubt be an AOPA air safety video some day or an IFR Mastery episode. He seemed to handle the approaches and misses properly. Didn’t sound panicky. I hate to be critical as a couch pilot but it would seem he thought he had the equipment and ability...

Mooney M20J FATAL CRASH at Sky Manor/Pittstown [2017]

Just amazing that the Operations person kept asking if they should call for ambulance and then decided to leave it up to people at the scene. A plane just went down. What’s the harm in a 911 call? Ugh Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Upcoming Piper Announcement @ SnF

I did not know this. I was looking at buying an arrow or other piper product, and even if it’s used, supporting them is now off the table. I really want a Bellanca Super Viking anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ethiopian Airlines Crash; Another 737 Max

I didn’t post the panic remark. I was trying to quote it and respond. Anyway others have pointed out the huge forces at play and the inability to crank that trim wheel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ethiopian Airlines Crash; Another 737 Max

Why so quick to assume “panic?” The whole flight lasted 6 mins and they fought with the plane the entire time. I really don’t understand a software system that essentially takes control of the aircraft from the pilot to avoid a stall and then doesn’t properly assess ALL the systems on the plane...

Ethiopian Airlines Crash; Another 737 Max

I have a question for software people. Why wouldn’t the MCAS system look at all the available flight info such as speed, altitude, VSI, etc and piece together something is wrong? Why can’t the system determine its getting bad info from one system that doesn’t have info that’s matching what other...

    Renters Insurance

My bad. Didn’t mean to imply you were advocating against insurance. The renter has to check on operators policy - but do not rely on what they tell you - often times the people relating this information do not know what they are talking about. I feel the cost for the renters insurance to carry...

    Renters Insurance

Well I respectfully disagree with coverage limit being the operators’ deductible. Their insurer has a right of subrogation and any payments they make can be sought from the renter. If you have no assets, then probably no biggie. However you’re better off simply having coverage close to the hill...

    Psychology of fuel management

Those are some excellent facts and sobering observation. I know I go through my checklist which has “Fuel gauges” and I pay almost no attention to them other than that they appear to be working and show an approximate level based on my inspection. After that it’s all time based analysis. Sent...

Ethiopian Airlines Crash; Another 737 Max

I don’t doubt in the highly competitive aviation manufacturing world that attacking Boeing is clearly a motive for some. It’s also true that most media reports of aviation issues tend to get dumbed down for general consumption and in the fast paced world of news information saying something...

Trump says: Airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly

Hmmm. Not sure how I set up straw man. My point is that his comment reflects an attitude that science and intelligence (especially the “intellectual elite”) are problematic. I believe there is significant aviation based analysis about the growth of technology in the cockpit and safety issues...
