Piper 28 Stall horn circuit breaker popping

The Piper light sucks. One Cherokee I looked after had a buzzer wired in with the light. The light worked as designed, the buzzing must have been a mosquito. ;)

    Flying with inop alternator

If it came with an electrical system from the factory, it should be operational. That is where a decent equipment list will show it as required equipment or optional. If not listed there, then you start getting into the TCDS and the basis or certification and the actual requirements that the...

Disastrous First (and Last) Annual - Advice Needed

Not a guru, but I do know how to read. Plus working on a few airplanes over 20+ years has helped. I do understand Bell's POV. The owner is the go to person for his aircraft. Up here in Canada, an annual is treated like just another required maintenance event - you inspect and report to the...

    LED Landing Light Replacement

Installed Whelen on KingAirs. They would ice up in the winter. Replaced with Boom Beams. Now the pilots can see a long, long way, they don't ice up and last a long time. You get what you pay for.

Disastrous First (and Last) Annual - Advice Needed

Saw a 185 get ferried with tree branches pushed inside the wing for support and hose clamps holding a 2x4 along the strut. But at least there was known good metal, it was just bent wrong. Corossion is insidious and ruins the base metal.

Disastrous First (and Last) Annual - Advice Needed

I have looked after an old Cherokee. That looks like the aft portion of the baggage door frame. The door probably leaks. I would be worried about the aft spar attach if this area is having issues. This is a known bad area on these aircraft. My boroscope was invaluable in looking under the...

    Continental engine stumble

Yes it does. It should have the atomizer nozzle installed, which is good. Did this issue just crop up in the last flights or has it been there since the carb replacement? Why was the carb changed? Get your idle mixture set, check the airbox and intake tubes, check the intake filter for...

    Continental engine stumble

    Great post.

    Continental engine stumble

A previous post mentioned an idle rpm rise at shutdown of 75 rpm, indicating that the idle mixture is too rich. Should be 25 rpm ideal, 50 max. If it is running rich at idle and hesitating, adding more fuel via the accelerator pump will only make it worse. And carb ice would make the engine...

    Continental engine stumble

Ok. I would assume that it will have the one piece venturi. The service bulletin for the o200 is below. I would be adjusting the idle mixture for current conditions, check induction tube system for leaks, air box condition and operation, etc. If it still stumbles, then look deeper...

    Continental engine stumble

What carb is installed? If a Marvel, what venturi does it have? The one piece venturi modified carbs have been known to exhibit a stumble due to the way the air and fuel flows and mixes. There is an updated nozzle that is supposed to help. Look back in the paperwork to see what was installed and...

    Sure, why not. ;)

    NON-Cheap Annuals

Pretty much. One annual does not fit all applications or circumstances.

    NON-Cheap Annuals

Some owners are really good (willing to learn, willing to address things when they are found when small, see the value a good maintainer brings to their aircraft serviceability and safety). Some want the signature in the log for as little time and money as possible, period. Aircraft is sold with...

    Interior plastics

I have always liked the idea of ditching all the plastic and getting blankets made, like in a Beaver. I would think a simple cover over the exposed flight control cables would keep them safe. Would probably gain a few pounds in useful load and be warmer. Just a thought.

    Dynamic prop balancing

Typically, you remove the existing dynamic weights and start from scratch. You don't want to add weight on top of weight.
