Legalities of flying with a collapsed strut?

The OP aircraft is a retractable Cherokee? If you don't like it, sure fly it with a collapsed strut. I sure wouldn't, nor would I recommend that to a customer. Piper retractables have enough issues without adding to them. As far as legalities, the aircraft has a known mechanical...

    Lube differences

Forgot to mention. Do not use fuel lube on cork gaskets. Cork will naturally swell when in contact with oil or fuel. Adding fuel lube will allow over torque and the gasket will squeeze out. Beech learned the hard way with King Air fuel system gaskets that cork is the best.

    Lube differences

O ring lube (DC55) is used to assemble parts with orings. It is slippery and will soften the oring slightly, allowing easier assembly. Fuel Lube (or what ever it is called now) is used in fuel valves. Also great on fuel system and hydraulic system pipe threads. It will seal the tiny gaps...

    Cleaning out the brake system

Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA). If using to clean out hoses or hard lines, push IPA through one direction, then another, until it runs out clean. Then purge with dry shop air or nitrogen. Not to be used in assembled components (master cylinder, caliper, valves, etc). Components would use fresh 5606...

    Cherokee 140 annual

A plausible explanation of the $200 annual. I still call baloney, but at least it sort of sounds good to owners who want the cheapest possible. No servicing, no repairs. Throw in some fries and I'll do up the altimeter and transponder recerts too! :p

Certified Primary / STC vs. TSO vs. FAA PMA approved oil temp gauges?

What make and model and year is the OP inquiring about? If the gauge is replaceable, why not just replace with a new or serviceable part?

Certified Primary / STC vs. TSO vs. FAA PMA approved oil temp gauges?

The TC may also say wings are required, but it won't say which part number either!

    Best long term fuel sealer

PRC plus a cork gasket is a recipe for leaks. Either cork with nothing else. Or a layer of PRC applied to both mating surfaces, assemble wet and start the screws/bolts until they just start to squeeze. Let cure fully, then torque. No stress on the parts.

Another screwed by someone elses mechanics thread

Nope. It is a bunch of inspection items and the results reported back to the owner. If he doesn't want to fix the cracked muffler, his decision. But I will be noting that in the entry, as required in the CARS.

Another screwed by someone elses mechanics thread

That is correct. An annual is just another maintenance event. If the owner wants me to do an AD search and verification, that is another task.

    Yep. Better system.

What Value is a Flight Director

Our Cheyenne had one. As long as you knew it's limitations, it work OK. Had to disengage at TOC, set power and trim, say a prayer, then enter altitude hold and nav. Otherwise it would poipose and make the pax sick!

What comes out of this hole?

How old is your plane? How many quarts of oil have been run through the engine? How many quarts have dripped and leaked out over that time? It is a drain hole for the stiffeners that run the length of the cabin. They are not sealed, so all sorts of water, oil, soap, etc can find it's way into...

Does the walkable area produce less lift?

Cherokees can have vortex generators that sit in front of the wing walk area. Especially useful for short tails. Then the air aft would already be turbulent. Put wing walk on the leading edge, then it would be problematic.

    It is so cold....

Yesterday morning. -39C. -55C windchill. These temps make the dog and cat very thankful that they live with us!

Cessna 150. Oil on oil radiator.

What is circled is the air intake filter. The oil soaked foam traps the dirt that would otherwise go into the engine. Keeping them in good condition is cheap insurance for keeping the engine happy, which should keep the owner and pilot happy.

    How to find the bathroom

I always keep a roll of TP or wet wipes nearby, even before I had kids. That feeling of utter dispair when you realize the next step and all you have is a pack of gum and a little bit of dignity! Did that once, learned my lesson! Kids just reinforce the "hope for the best, plan for the...

    Sudden Compass Error

Which is why I said "servicing", and not "repair". Plus, in Canada, we can monkey with a compass as long as we have the manual for it. Not exactly rocket science to replace the diaphram and service it with fluid. EDIT: For clarity ... Instrument 5 Maintenance of instruments, other than...

    Sudden Compass Error

Sounds like it needs to be removed and serviced. While out it can be checked for accuracy away from the airframe.
