    Concerns 1969 C-150J

Cracks in floorplan, door post and main gear structure. Wrinkled firewall at nose gear attach points. Corrossion in the wings. Highly recommend the club. Lots of resources there. I see prices are on their way up.

    Regulatory Questions: Aeronca 7EC

I have done this kind of stuff, trying to appease an owner bit by bit, pound by pound. Trying to find old service documents, all in an effort to put lipstick on a pig. Kind of fun to read, very glad to not be involved! I wish you luck!

    Piper Cherokee cylinder replacement

Jeeeeezzzezzzz! If my old mentor saw connecting rods laying like that, he would have torn me a few new ones!! "Did they drop? Are they marked? What the %$^& are you doing, young man? Jeeezzzzeeeezzz!" The whole time his cigarette hanging from his mouth, ash almost up to his lip, fishing for...

    Lycoming Engine Sputter in Flight

How much RPM was lost? Was the electric fuel pump still on? What were the mag drops before and after flight? Do you have an engine analyzer that logs data? What do the fuel samples look like? Has the aircraft flown since? Very difficult to troubleshoot over the net.

    1969 Piper Cherokee alternator?

As I wrote, depends on the relationship. I have done it once or twice using pictures from pilots I trust.

    1969 Piper Cherokee alternator?

I don't get it. What is the big deal about getting a ferry permit? Probably a mechanic needs to look at it to ensure it is safe for flight. I have done them over the phone. It depends on the particular relationship (does the mechanic know the aircraft and trust the owner). So he/she looks to...

    Safety Cable replacing Safety Wire

I don't like it. I find cutting it difficult and it is expensive. In a factory setting, maybe it makes a difference to use the cable system versus traditional lockwire. But in the field, I will stick with the tried and true.

    Yep. Well said! :)

    1969 Piper Cherokee alternator?

If the electrical system is not serviceable at departure, then it is in fact illegal. A PA28 is designed and built with a functioning electrical system. It is part of its type design. If it doesn't meet the type design, it can't be legally airworthy. A J3, not so much. If you choose to shut it...

    1969 Piper Cherokee alternator?

It is really easy to say "it is fine to fly as is" when the person saying it has zero liability in the actual decision. From this side of the internet, a popped main circuit breaker is not a typical failure. If the plane needs to travel to be looked at, legally a ferry flight is needed. Would...

    G1000 Anti Glare Worn out

OH MY! Those are bad. I wouldn't be surprised if the fix will be replacement. Microfiber cloths and eyeglass cleaner. Do not spray directly onto the screen. Lightly moisten cloth, not dripping.

    Avionics TSO v. non TSO

Amen, bell206. When I took ground school years ago, I was shocked at what was being taught. Just enough to pass the exam, and nothing about owning an aircraft and what is involved.

    Wiggly Prop

I love it when owners want an opinion, as long as it fits what they want to hear. "Do as you wish!".

Finding a Copy of CFR Title 14 Part 23 for a certain date

Does the owner's manual discuss the stall warning system anywhere? If a separate horn is discussed, then it is most likely original. Going to Bell206's link above and searching for stall warning, you can verify that it is most likely an original required item, versus a mod/STC. The owner's...

Army surveillance aircraft - what does it do?

Imagine the electrical system to run it all! There is a reason you can buy a 350 with -67's!

Reckon what size these screws need to be?

Also, take flat wire lace string and tie the butterfly nut to the instrument. Sucks to get to the last one and it pushes out!

Dye Penetrant Crack detection in props

I used to be Appendix K certified for fluorescent on a few specific tasks. Annual training and performance testing and keeping a logbook of each inspection. Went by the wayside after NDT AMO's started charging more to keep up on my certification than to perform the actual inspections.

Dye Penetrant Crack detection in props

Any dye penetrant inspection requires that the flaw being looked for is on the surface. And that surface has to be stripped, clean and relatively smooth. The harm may come in false positives (crack found, when it isn't there) or false negatives (no crack found, when in fact there is one). I'd...
