    Shade tree mechanic strikes again

Because it is beyond the scope of his/her certificate. My AME licence here in Canada does not allow me to willy nilly make changes to a certified aircraft, let alone changes to a fundamental system such as the fuel system. But I have seen the OEM make changes, much like what Dan is...

    Shade tree mechanic strikes again

I have made whole skins by using the material information on the inside of the original skin. Building something else with no information, more would need to be done to ensure compliance with OEM requirements.

    Shade tree mechanic strikes again

Or read the alloy specifications printed on the inside skin, like most Cessnas.

    Three minutes twenty-four seconds.

Harry Fenton mentions the following SB from Continental. Seems worth looking into. I have also attached a copy of Continental Service Bulletin M64-6. This Bulletin specifically addresses idle problems when operating in cold weather. The solution is to make a baffle which is mounted in front...

    Shade tree mechanic strikes again

What about those out there (mechanic, owner, pilot, joe blow) who don't know what they don't know? Blissfully blasting along, feeling fat dumb and happy, doing what they think is right. Owners are legally responsible for their aircraft's condition. Some take that seriously. Some take that as a...

    Shade tree mechanic strikes again

I still use koroseal lacing. When done well, it will last a long time and not create other issues. Something that gets overlooked often is the fact that maintainers are supposed to be ensuring compliance to standards, not changing a design to suit immediate needs.

    Thinking about a new toolbox

I have the OP's Home Depot box at work. Added an 18 inch side cab. The drawer locks are wearing out, but they can be replaced or flipped over when bad enough. For the money, best value for a 24 inch deep toolbox in my opinion.

    Did not collide with Aeronca

I had something similar happen during flight training. Plane ahead of me landed and was taking longer than expected to vacate. I was just about to say something when my instructor told me to go around and ATC at the same moment said the same. As was mentioned, it was kind of fun and educational...

    Aircraft Upholstery Fabric. US

From Canada, but I think I have seen something about 'substantive change' from the FAA. http://www.av8design.com/Topic_mods_11.htm

    buying a Canadian registered airplane

The cost to go from owner maintained to a standard C of A would be big dollars. Unless you have an 'in' somewhere. The original premise is good, but without the US buying in as well, it is pretty much a one way street.

FAA shut down my 3M aircraft graphic film.

To paraphrase this thread. Someone was told about something. Then went and told someone else. Someone else made a statement, which has been brought forward as "gospel". And now "someone else" is the ah$%^. Story should be: do your own homework.

There has got to be a better way?

10 to 20 ml syringes. Remove needle. Replace with red straw ( might need to open the end of the syringe slightly, but you want a tightish fit). Fill with oil of choice ( be sure to mark what is inside). Remove air and direct the lube oil where you want it without waste or mess. I have straws...
