Oh Continental, what have you done now?

Yes, there is a particular reason. Incompetent FAA lawyers. This is nothing new.

Oh Continental, what have you done now?

It's not a logbook entry, but is an "AD log" that is part of the aircraft records. I have plenty of aircraft records that aren't in the logbook (i.e. repair station invoices with details that aren't in the logbook).

Oh Continental, what have you done now?

The issue comes down the road when an unfamiliar IA looks at your plane 5 years from now and wonders, did they comply with this AD or determine it was not applicable? We have a master list of potentially-applicable ADs that indicate which ones are applicable to our plane. This is more with who...

PC 12 down in Nevada - 5 Fatalities

So, we're going with the FIKI-capable Canada Goose theory?

    London/Paris Vacation, must see places?(NA)

Fair to say, much of the world would consider the vast majority of the British Museum to be "borrowed". :D

    London/Paris Vacation, must see places?(NA)

We did 8 days in England last year. The British Museum is amazing, but also overwhelming. If it works for your schedule, a good way to see the British Museum is in smaller bites. We stayed in a rented flat about a 15 minute walk from the museum, and actually visited 3 times for less than 2...

    Need vacation idea

Unplugged? I'd find a cabin in the woods to rent that is near a grass strip airport that offers a tailwheel endorsement. As much as I like the suggestions of aerobatic or unusual attitude classes, that tends to not be most folk's idea of relaxing.

182 few streaks of oil on the windshield

Dan is on-point that airflow behind the prop means it could be from anywhere upfront. That said, the most likely culprits are the plug at the bottom of the oil cooler and anywhere on the the front of the oil pan.

PC 12 down in Nevada - 5 Fatalities

The principal flaw in the PC-12 might be that it is such a capable aircraft, it inspires pilots to do things that exceed the pilot's capabilities.

    So Cal Paint Shop Recomendations

Quality-wise, ArtCraft at SMX is probably the best in the area. They did some touch-up on a not-so-great paint job we had done, and the touch up work held up very well. I've also heard the job at AJO is good. Suggest visiting both and looking at finished products, pricing etc. If you haven't...

    L.A. weather

Next 72 hours should be a wild ride in the mountains. I-5 and I-15 passes will almost certainly be closed for awhile. Been awhile since snow levels went this low. High desert (Lancaster/Palmdale/Edwards) might turn white for a bit. We have a few small peaks over 1,500' just west of Chino that...

I have given up looking for a new, to me truck, for now

I have a 2019 Colorado diesel long bed. Very happy with it. The new ones are nice, and I've read good things about the 2.7L turbo 4 their using, but they really messed up by not offering a long bed version. It is "the right size", though you'd need a pretty long garage to comfortably fit it...

Educate me on why this plane has not sold

It's also located in the absolute middle of nowhere, so it is challenging for someone to just go take a look at it. If he wanted to get it to sell, he'd sign up with a broker near a population center. That said, Cherokee 180s are nice travelling machines, and if it's bones are good someone will...

    Congressmen letter template

Better yet, there should be no requirement for a 3rd class medical before Basic Med if there isn't one on the must-SI conditions. I'm not seeing a bunch of planes piloted by Basic Med pilots falling from the sky. Aeromedical has every resource they need to speed up the process, by cutting their...

Some thoughts on a new Compass

You're asking for thoughts, but already bought one? That's a different approach. Must be a Jeep thing.

    Refresh a PIPER CHEROKEE 140

Financials aside, a Cherokee 140 is not a great plane to have in California. It is severely underpowered to get over the mountains, and will struggle to make it to minimum enroute altitudes for IFR flying.

The machines are coming for our jobs

Not only a reduction in US birth rates, but also a years-long decrease in net migration to the US - just now recovering, results in fewer workers. https://www.census.gov/library/stories/2022/12/net-international-migration-returns-to-pre-pandemic-levels.html

    Phillips multigrade mineral

For both new and repaired cylinders, our A&P always has us use Aeroshell 100 mineral oil for the first 30-50 hours. We normally use Phillips 20-50W AD.
