I remember hearing that story firsthand as a teen. My dad's cousin was married to Tom Nunn, the communications guy on that flight. We visited them in Miami, and he gave us a tour of that P-3. Also got to see their UH-1's and Twin Otter. NOAA would be a cool organization to work for.

Looks pretty good. I always took CASEVAC duty pretty serious when my bird and crew were tasked to do it. Got to work with some awesome flight medics/docs as well. I always felt safer when they were on board heading to the "X".

I hate those towers NE of OKC. We usually fly right by them on our way to Wiley Post for a fuel stop. I never get comfortable being in the same zip code with those monsters!
