You hit the nail on the head. I remember working with them back around 2004/2005 or so and chatting with their SF handlers. They (SF) weren't impressed and neither were we when trying to train them to fast-rope out of our Chinooks. The SF guys would tell us they'd not show up for a couple weeks...

I got to take a look at the Raider (test platform), V-280, and the Bell 360 mockup recently. The Raider demonstrator was the actual flying aircraft, and was really cool to be able to walk around and look at. The gearbox on it was impressive, and of course there were accelerometers and wires...

I will say do your due diligence. That one weekend a month, and two weeks a year could turn into a whole lot more, and COULD affect your civilian life. I would say seek out current members of the units you are looking at, and talk to them about upcoming "events".

Close to home. Literally. This is me and @baboss hometown. We both learned to fly at KAAA, and it happened about 2-3 miles NW of our childhood home. Tragic. Prayers for the families.

The H5 is a cool little airplane. I'm a big guy and sat in the H5 cockpit demo they had set up at Oshkosh a couple years ago. Pretty roomy for such a small airplane. The Midget Mustang and the H5 are about as far apart as you can get with respect to low wing single seaters. I have MM-1 plans...

Doggone. I was operating out of there Wed. around noon or so. Wasn’t really paying attention on what was taxiing past (bug vs. rhino) while we were getting ready to fly out. All those cats were waving in the cockpit at us, obviously envious of use and our combat hardened twin rotor wonders!

Was this flight out of NTU?

Didn’t think about the not so busy beaches and you are correct in that it’s early in the season. Probably more to do with that than the wind.
