Burning Man 2000 flights last year

With a forecast of rain seventy thousand idiots haul all their crap out onto a dry lake bed. What could possibly go wrong?

Burning Man 2000 flights last year

Flew in there about twelve years ago. Didn't attend the festival, just wanted to land on the playa. Hung out for about half an hour and got some cool air shots of the "city" It was hot and dusty. There were probably 100 - 150 airplanes there.

    PIREP on Para-Port hangar doors?

Well I started flying in the summer of 1969 and while these guys claim they've been around since 1962 I have never seen one. I'm assuming this is not the old Port-A-Port hangar company that closed down sometime in the 80's

    How old is to old

Knew a guy years ago who did it. He already had the hours and ATP, he kept in touch with us for awhile as a junior FO, living in crash-pads, constantly on call. Seemed like a pretty miserable life for someone in their mid 50's. Haven't heard from him for over 10 or 15 years, he'd be retired by...

Why is there not a both fuel selector in low wing GA aircraft

Luscombe 8E models have two wing tanks but no "BOTH" selection. A guy once installed a selector with a BOTH position and he crashed.

Unfortunate plane crash: Wagner boss Prigozhin reported killed in crash

Latest I read American intel says no evidence of missile so more likely onboard bomb but also have they actually found his body yet? Last report was 8 bodies out of 10.

54 knot CAS MOSAIC requirement, and only that. :)

The idea of the NPRM process is somebody asks "why 54 kts" and they have to answer with some sort of reason, not just "because" so let's see what happens.

    What not efi like cars

As in you walked "through"? I can't imagine why anyone would go to A&P school twice.

    What not efi like cars

Personally I have no problem with three knobs. Combined with a brain they do a heck of a lot better than many people seem to realize. Why add a bunch of circuits and sensors for something you can already do yourself? The reason we're stuck with 40's tech is because it works.

Video of C-152 Stall/Spin @ Quebec City (CYQB)

It's not just the flaps, it's the fact that on the approach with power near idle you have nearly full nose up trim set in.

    VFR flight plan - why?

Well I remember back in the days when we didn't have GPS or cellphones or internet or personal computers and you used FSS so you could get an idea of the weather and the predicted winds so you'd have an idea of how you were going to calculate your way to your destination but even then we didn't...

    Region of reverse command

Seems like an awful lot of overthinking this. Fly the airplane, get it slow and see how long you can keep it in the air. You'll figure out what the whole "reverse" thing is about, it will be obvious, without a lot of words or laying around awake at night thinking about it..

Stall base to final.. question on the pattern

Pretty sure the guy who told you that doesn't know either, that's how "facts" like that get passed on. No data, no evidence, just sounds good.

Announcing on CTAF 15 miles out - why is this a thing?

I was entering the pattern a while back with three Cessnas all announcing their colors. I could see all three of them and each was a little grey dot, couldn't possibly tell what color they were.

Announcing on CTAF 15 miles out - why is this a thing?

Tail number is a unique identifier, it has nothing to do with someone being able to actually read it. Plus, with ADS-B on your iPad you can see exactly who is who with that info. It doesn't tell you what color they are.

    PIREP on the PortaPilot?

Imagine pouring your heart and soul into a project designing, developing and manufacturing a clamp-on autopilot for Cessnas and then nobody bought one ;) They might want to think about firing the guy who thought that "PortaPilot" would be a good name for it.

Stall base to final.. question on the pattern

The main reason it happens is because of proximity and visual fixation on the ground (the runway you're aiming for) these conditions make it very easy to get uncoordinated which is a prerequisite requirement for a spin. The base to final stall/spin isn't really a common thing it's just that when...

    Downwind turn

Why does this meme exist in our pilot's dictionary? We know that once airborne the only wind effect on our aircraft (outside of sudden gusts, shifts or shears - aka turbulence) is our path across the now disconnected ground. Yet it keeps coming up time and again in discussions and it keeps...

How short is too short of a flight?

So for long term storage, if you had a quick drain you could just go out there and drain the water out of it every month or so. Seems kinda stupid to churn it all up and try to evaporate it with heat when it just conveniently collects itself at the bottom of the sump anyway.
