FAA Tells Pilots To Go Analogue As GNSS ‘Spoofing’ Incidents Increase

I can't imagine you'd have much range for a hundred bucks.

    Uncoordinated flight-aileron trim tab

I know you've already been beaten up over it but until you get past this fundamental misconception of how wind affects an airborne craft you're going to be chasing shadows. As suggested above try using different power settings with rudder trim centered and see if you can find one that puts the...

    Borescope Advice

These folks divining all sorts of valve and cylinder woes with cheap digital cameras reminds me of Percival Lowell discovering all those canals on Mars with his telescope at the end of the 19th century.

Glider Pilot vs. Private Pilot Skills

Bottom line is that additional experience in another aircraft is not a bad thing but the most important thing is experience and knowledge of the aircraft you are currently flying. That being said there is more to soaring than just gliding back to the airport but those cross country soaring...

    Borescope Advice

To be clear none of these are borescopes, they are just cheap Chinese mini-cameras, usually 640x480 resolution. Secondly, if you have a valve problem a compression test is going to reveal it long before you'll see anything with one of these scopes. They have their uses and I actually have three...

(NA - sort of) Your at your local airport and witness a fellow pilot kick a dog on a leash

When I was a kid our dog used to chase cars on the road so one day we drove down the road and dumped a bucket of water on him. Didn't work.

Can an airplane be flown while its annual inspection is still in progress?

When an inspection is started the reason the aircraft is no longer airworthy is because they have started to take it apart (open panels, disconnect ignition wires etc...) If the annual due date has not expired then the inspection requirement has no bearing on the airworthiness. All that is...

    PA-28 Master cylinder leaking

"Bleed brakes (4) hours" I got a laugh out of this. The Cherokee started out with a single hand brake lever that doubled as a parking brake. Thing is, it worked perfectly fine but people were convinced they had to have toe brakes so Piper tacked them onto the existing system. But wait, people...

    Buying a Pa-28 140

If you end up with a 140 ditch the wheel pants, take out the back seat and don't haul around a bunch of fuel you're not going to need. Keep it as light as possible and it can work. But, as you know, you never hear anyone complaining that "this plane has WAY too much power" so there is that...

    Question about adverse yaw

The term "flying by the seat of your pants" comes from the old biplanes when pilots normally sat behind the wing. In a typical modern GA aircraft you're going to be sitting pretty much right at the center of lift so you're not going to get much of it. Your passengers in the back seat, on the...

long term effects of being an airline pilot

Because it's a union job and seniority means everything in regards to routes, vacations etc, etc. Once you have 5 or more years in it's difficult to justify jumping ship for another carrier. You'd have to start all over again.

Hinge Pins - Cessna and Piper

Just went through this with a PA-28. Tried just the pin first but no joy, made absolutely no improvement. Ended up replacing the whole assembly.

Can IA ground plane for airworthiness outside of annual inspection?

Well technically "I can't release your plane" does not mean that you can't take it out of the shop. It just means he can't (or won't) sign your log book as "returned to service" They have absolutely no authority to hold your aircraft from you or even stopping you from flying it out of there.

    A&P currency

65.91 (c)(3) and (4) were the two parts that maybe gave me a little bit of concern when I went for my IA. "Have a fixed base of operation" and "Have the equipment and facilities" seemed to be potential areas of differing interpretation by an agent but I didn't have any problems with it. Prior to...

The A&P certificate does not expire however the rules of what an A&P can and cannot do would preclude you from doing anything you weren't comfortable with.

how long to complete an annual inspection for C182

From the inspector's perspective "thoroughly clean" means to the extent required to properly conduct the inspection. It is not a cosmetics task although I do go so far as to remove my oily fingerprints from the cowl when I'm done.
