Lycoming exhaust stud repair - Helicoil?

Correct but nobody was saying that they were for studs. I was just pointing out to the original poster that there is such a thing as an NPT Helicoil.

IA's required to sign off on N/A AD's?

You're not "signing off" an AD as N/A you're just making note of it in in the compliance list. You had to look it up and read it and determine that it was N/A so why not just leave a note so the next guy (or maybe your aging self a couple of years later) doesn't have to do it again. Even if the...

Lycoming exhaust stud repair - Helicoil?

It's not. When I replied to the thread I was looking at the original post and didn't notice it was three years old. I wasn't actually talking to you or your application. Sorry, just wanted to point out that there were NPT cases listed in the SL because the OP asked about tapered threads (back in...

Chrome spinner on a cessna legality?

If actually chrome plated then I'm with the IA. There is no approved procedure for one and the electroplating (first with copper then nickel/chrome) adds weight, possible imbalance and embrittlement. Great for door handles but spinners not so much.

Lycoming exhaust stud repair - Helicoil?

Look again at Lycoming Service Letter SL162B 4029-1 1/16-27 NPT 4029-2 1/8-27 NPT I know they're not what you're looking for but they do exist.

    Crosswind landing no-flap taildragger

Sounds awfully complicated. In a crab you are coordinated, aligned with the wind and your ground track is aligned with the runway. If you're too high and need to slip just align the nose with the runway and tada, you're in a slip. Back on glideslope let go and back into the crab. Ready to land...

California FBOs Told To Stop Selling 100LL, Switch To G100UL

If it's going to be mandated they better start telling somebody because as far as I know nobody out here has heard anything about it.

Lycoming exhaust stud repair - Helicoil?

The ones that are tapered are labeled NPT

    Starter not disengaged

I think it's virtually impossible for the starter to remain engaged on a running engine and if so there would be some major racket before substantial destruction. I'm not sure what the gear ratio is but probably at least 10:1 so at 2400 rpm the little stater pinion would have to spin at 24,000...

"Inspected oil filter, found no metal" - myth or reality?

There are a lot of factors involved and your basic curiosity has merit outside of the maybe unintentional inference that somebody is lying about the whole thing. If you want to find at least some of the missing material you quest for I'd of course not suggest pouring a quart of Marvel Mystery...

    Starter not disengaged

It's called a Bendix Drive, The pinion retracts when the engine starts and the flywheel rotation exceeds that of the starter motor.

"Inspected oil filter, found no metal" - myth or reality?

Okay, as a retired A&P who has cut open and washed a bunch of filters over the past 45 years here's my report: your math doesn't add up.

    ...

The bottom line is that once you get your license and start flying places the wind isn't always going to be reliably predictable at your destination so there may come a time when you just have to give it a try and if you find on short final that it ain't gonna work then go somewhere else where...

"Inspected oil filter, found no metal" - myth or reality?

Well, what you are saying is that reality doesn't add up with your "back of the envelope math" so where would you suspect the error lies?

"Inspected oil filter, found no metal" - myth or reality?

Same concept in that your "fine steel dust" are giant boulders in comparison to the microscopic particles that the normal wear process creates. I'd add that the majority of wear is at start-up. A correctly functioning engine at operating temperature and oil pressure isn't going to have any...

"Inspected oil filter, found no metal" - myth or reality?

Without analyzing your math I think maybe you are mentally time compressing the wear and assuming it comes through as "steel filings" rather than microscopic particles that remain suspended in the oil and are not entrapped by the filter.

An extraordinarily bizarre airspeed mystery that no A&P can solve

I haven't read all seven pages of responses so apologize if this has already been suggested and dismissed but I had a similar problem and it was my tachometer. When it failed it read high so I was unknowingly flying around with 20% less throttle.

Alternatives to Zip Ties in Engine Compartment

I bought a batch when they first came out and found that over time the silicone cushion strips separate from the base so I never bothered with them again. Also never really found a need for the reusability unless it's some sort of temporary restraint and you don't mind the long end of the tie...

Why do they say "Anyone can learn how to fly"?

It's simply a phrase applied to numerous things that you might initially think are impossible in order to break the ice and introduce the notion that hey, maybe I could. It doesn't mean that there isn't a person who couldn't.
