    Burning Man

Come on, the dust isn't like alien blood. It's not going to dissolve your airframe as you watch. I've been to Burning Man once and High Sierra Fly-in a couple of times (same dust) Still here and so is my airplane. I suppose if you kept it hermetically sealed in a climate controlled hangar it...

Tool box recommendations for future A&P mechanic

I bought the 57 inch one 3 or 4 years ago and it's a pretty good rollaway. Better than the Kobalt or Craftsman ones at Lowes.

Tool box recommendations for future A&P mechanic

I went to Harbor Freight once to get a pair of needle nosed pliers. I came out with a set of 3 pliers, a 20 inch pry bar, a storage cabinet, a pair of 7x50 binoculars and an R/C helicopter.

Tool box recommendations for future A&P mechanic

I remember going there with my brothers in the 60's. You had to take a ticket with a number, ours was #89. So when they finally called 89 we went to the counter and they said "Sorry, we're still on the BLUE tickets"

Tool box recommendations for future A&P mechanic

I'm so old I even have a few Penncraft ratchets from back when JC Penny competed against Sears Craftsman and another big store called Montgomery Ward.

Watching the Blue Angels is Unhealthy

First time I saw the Thunderbirds was at Bunker Hill AFB in the mid sixties and they were flying F-100 Super Sabres. There were also some B-58 Hustler fly-by's. Not sure how healthy it was but if it's gonna kill me it sure is taking it's sweet time.

    Induction leaks

Since it was previously found to be the MP gauge line I'd suggest that would be the first thing to check

when you don't have your maint. logs with you?

I once did an annual on a J3 Cub that had originally come from Canada. The logs were these 8 1/2 x 11 inch notebooks and the guy who had been maintaining the plane for the past fifty years or so liked to make his entries in script all the way across both pages. So basically an 11x17 inch format...

What causes engine roughness when you lean too much?

As said the roughness is because one or two cylinders are giving up before the rest. If you have a really well balanced set of injectors (this is not going to apply to carbureted engines) with all cylinder, spark plugs and leads in good shape you won't feel any roughness, it will just start...

How many here have read these books. See attached poll?

Got my first airplane ride in a C-172 in 1967 when I was 13 years old. I started reading every book I could get my hands on right after that, got a student license in 1969 and started taking lessons. So I've read all of those and many more technical, military, civilian, fiction and non-fiction...

Who are rated seaplane pilots on POA? 'fess up.

Got my SES at Florida Seaplanes about 20 years ago in a Maule. After the check ride we flew up to Georgia and landed in the flooded ditch next to the Maule factory for a tour. My brother ended up buying an M7-235 but alas, we never put floats on it so I just keep carrying over that 10.5 SES...

    Strange mag issue

It's simply an odd coincidence. Somebody else is turning the runway lights ON, just happened to be they went OFF at the exact moment you switched to left mag. The universe is weird like that, happens all the time. Your radio is a different issue, not related whatsoever.

Have you experienced an unintentional stall/spin before?

It's more likely to happen at approach speeds close to the ground where you have a strong visual illusion if fixated on your ground track that can cause you to get uncoordinated. In those cases the ones who have experienced it probably aren't here to answer.

Drone at 1000 feet in the San Francisco Bay Area

I don't think the rules are meant to have anything to do with us. Remote ID is meant to give ground based law enforcement a method of identifying and locating the operator of a drone that is either violating an ordinance or causing someone to lodge a complaint of some sort. I guess the...

How to almost die in the mountains

Okay so it's real and all the youtuber's on blancolirio's channel want the guy hauled in and strung up. What do you think? He was alone, by himself, he lived through it and obviously wanted to get to Rifle for some reason (at that age my guess is a girl) So did he violate our rules and cause...

    Mechanic’s insurance

That's not really an option because when you become an A&P and then an AI you didn't form a plan to flirt the rules or disrespect our change them or even question them. That's not your job. There is a system that has been built up and if you think something is stupid well, okay let's look at it...

Would cranking for 10 seconds with the mixture in idle cut off pre oil the engine?

One of the reasons that can happen is due to corrosion and pitting because the accessory cover in which the oil pump gear bores are was magnesium alloy. The new ones are aluminum (and quite a bit heavier)
