Am I flying my simulator correctly?

You are letting the trim position determine your power setting and speed. You can get the plane to fly level at any trim position by adjusting power but if you want to fly at a specific power setting (that is, normal cruise) then you'll need to adjust the trim to maintain level flight at that...

Announcing on CTAF 15 miles out - why is this a thing?

Anybody who's been to Oshkosh or any other big flyin knows when to keep their mouth shut but having more information rather than less isn't necessarily a bad thing. Pilots need to understand the meaning of "terse" in regards to radio use. Know before you key the mic what you are going to say and...

    What happened to Jim Tweto?

Tree hit the stab right at the root. I doubt there was enough speed after that impact for the elevator to have done anything even if it were still working. Plus we have no idea what the airspeed was if he had hit shear. Last Saturday morning I woke up to a clear calm day at the house with plans...

How short is too short of a flight?

I think the point is - as a practice - meaning, doing it all the time constantly. It doesn't mean that if you want to move the airplane 300 yards you have to let it idle for an hour.

Help ID tool (actually, help with tool addiction)

Then there's always that ONE tool. Years ago I bought an old Champ that had been tied down for a couple of years just outside Palm Springs at Bermuda Dunes. Plan was to drive down there, get it checked out and bring it home. So me and my brother started loading the truck up with tools. Soon I...

Checking if A&P is still certificated

The FAA site is somewhat limited. For me it doesn't tell when I got my pilot's license, only when I replaced the paper one with the plastic one.

Help ID tool (actually, help with tool addiction)

My problem was I had all of these tools, then I got the hangar and it seemed that whenever I was at the hangar the tool I needed was at home and vice versa so, you can see where this is going. Now I've got practically two of everything and every time I buy a new tool well, shoot....

Aeronca Champ down out of KDLH

Not sure about Canada but rules here were relaxed and no STC required to put shoulder harnesses in an old Cub or Champ, just a log entry.

    Flying Cars for everyone!

So aside from motorcyclist knocking off our mirrors splitting lanes in traffic now we'll have these clowns jumping the line and bending our radio antennas? What's it gonna cost to insure a quarter million dollar plastic car on the road? With flying cars it always seems to be the same - they...

    What happened to Jim Tweto?

I'm pretty sure that most of us understand the reality TV shtick but despite the overcooked melodrama I watched all of the Ice Pilots and Wild Alaska episodes. My biggest gripe about it was how they would start with the initial crisis clickbait, slog you through the lead in story then the crisis...

    What happened to Jim Tweto?

Really? Well, how about NWT or Yukon? lol. Yea we know but we still watch them right? It's called "entertainment" So a rudder pedal breaks - meh, but it's good for a couple of minutes of nail-biting between handfuls of popcorn on an otherwise slow Thursday evening.

    What happened to Jim Tweto?

Yea it's kind of like an attitude that - it's Alaska, this is normal. I remember the episode where he was taking a couple of hunters to a remote ridge and had to do multiple passes to air drop their gear before landing. Then, on take-off his rudder pedal broke so he had to hop into the right...

(NA) They're listening and I don't like it

I'm constantly bombarded with spam phone calls, which I don't answer but I'm beginning to wonder if a different tactic might be better. That would be to go ahead and answer, don't talk or listen, just put the phone back in my pocket and maybe tie up their system for five minutes or so until it...

    What happened to Jim Tweto?

Okay but shouldn't it also be here as in aircraft mishap? I know who he was, just want to know what happened.

Constant speed prop - throttle first or prop first?

It's really not as complicated as people think it is. Think of it like a transmission, pulling the blue knob out is like going into a higher gear. So if you want to go up a hill you downshift then step on the gas. Going down a hill, just leave it in fifth and take your foot off the gas.
