how much confidence do you have in fuel gauges?

Have a 172 with float style. How much "trust" would you put in these? Or basically how low would you actually feel comfortable running them in the real world?

    IFR questions

i can't personally imagine flying IFR without a nav radio. i don't think it's crazy dangerous or something, but seems to me to be basic equipment. i'm constantly routed to airways, maybe your area is different i have had a GPS fail several times for varying reasons on different aircraft. i...

    210C shredded Oceana Michigan 7/18/2022

disagree a bit. the public regard for GA is based almost exclusively on accidents, having some clown crash into a pedestrian, a house, kill a passenger, etc... because they can't follow basic common sense reflects poorly on the rest of us. we can't control it, but we can all influence good...

Military trainer (?) down at Fallbrook CA (L18)

dang, truly among one of the worst times to lose an engine. too late to put it back down, too soon to figure anything out

    Non-VFR altitude post-engine work

not true. the instant your course is passing 180 degrees you need to immediately start a 1000 ft climb. and once you pass 360 degrees you'll need to climb another 1000 ft. if you do it right you should reach the stratosphere within a few dozen turns

T210 lands on rural NY highway, plane destroyed by fire

Turbos tend to be involved with fires because they are extremely hot and thus any kind of small oil or fuel leak has a high potential for a fire. Debris such as a birds nest or accumulation of grass/vegetation can also provide the fuel necessary but I don't see that being very likely on an...

    N. Las Vegas Mid-air

i just don't really feel like there is much that can be done to prevent things like this. it sounds like two experienced pilots in the malibu lined up for the wrong runway at their home field? how can you really stop something like that? a class d tower can't be expected to call the base for...

agree. controller should be able to rely on even a student pilot on their first solo lining up for the proper left/right runway after saying it twice

How to choose a cruise RPM for tach time on JPI 930

indeed it has a constant speed prop. but there is not a single rpm for cruise, it's a range of 2100-2625 rpm. hence me asking the question...what to choose. we settled at around 2350 rpm as most will probably cruise 2300-2400 rpm but was just surprised there is not more specific guidance on what...

How to choose a cruise RPM for tach time on JPI 930

but i'm an engineer, there must be a reason or paper behind every single decision on a selecting a number!
