    Old airlines, the old ways

I'll remember that next time I flip a coin for an airline. My kids would probably squeal with joy if they got to sit in the cockpit and get some wings.

    Old airlines, the old ways

I was listening to a podcast today on the way home from work and really like this guy's stories (Bill Duffy, Thoughts from the Flight Deck). He mentioned Pan Am...the series that you can watch on iTunes. The days when you could go in the cockpit and the glamour of flying....they were certainly...

    What's wrong with Cirrus Pilots?

I'm just reading this wondering about the chute. Can it be released once the spin is recovered so the plane can fly again or does the plane have to go all the way to the ground with the chute?

    lowest altitude route

I think I've got most of what I need. Let's end this thread! Thanks for all the suggestions.

    lowest altitude route

I used AOPA's flight planner for lowest route (at 11,500...the first image below) and then direct route at 12,500. It looks like the direct route takes me right into a mountain. Maybe that's Loveland Pass. I do have some waypoint pins on a route I was thinking of but haven't finished looking at...

More Streaming Netflix Aviation Related Fun

I watched the episode. The flying "washing machine" wasn't nearly as sexy as their Bugati but it's a car show.

"High to low, look out below!"

Isn't a simple way to just remember high to low, look out below to mean high altitude to low altitude, look out below (because your altimeter is telling you you're higher than you really are) or high pressure to low pressure, look out below (because your altimeter is telling you you're...

Flying into KAPA - need local advice

thread hijack.... If I want to go to KAPA and eat at Perfect Landings do I have to pay to tie down and is there any other fee? I actually want to go to KCOS and eat there too. Same question applies....do I call beforehand to ask who charges what?

Ugh im hitting the information overload wall

I was stressed out and tired of lessons toward the end. And I felt like how you feel. I thought to myself I could have been satisfied with just soloing and doing a couple of cross-countries. I wasn't planning on making a career out of it anyway. You'll regain your momentum. You should see the...

    lowest altitude route

Looks like I will be signing up for the mountain course. I did just get my PPL and nowhere near the 125 required for the mountain xc. After reading all the posts I might be better off just flying with someone who's done it before but I need to learn this stuff so maybe after the mountain course...

    lowest altitude route

Is there some site or software that can find the lowest altitude route? I'd like to fly from Erie, CO to Grand Junction (in Sep to see the Blue Angles) but it looks like a 172 might be a challenge to use. I am looking at the CPA site that shows the passes and altitudes. Maybe I can figure it out...

    Flying XC without an iPad

I understand your issue. I love technology that's simple and works. I think it's funny when someone asks what if the battery runs down. I could let it run down just like I could run out of gas if I wanted to.

    Endurance chart question

The 172R I'm flying has an endurance chart which uses standard temperature. Do I assume the chart means 15C at every altitude in the chart that goes up to 12,000 ft? Or does the chart mean that it's calculated sea level at standard temperature and the rest of the altitudes are based on standard...

Does anyone ever use binoculars while flying? I think I'm going to bring mine next time and read some signs.

    Does anybody here GeoCache?

I'm impressed there are so many here that do it. I'm not a charter member nor an expert but 2001 was my geocache.com start. There's got to be a "virtual" geocache for flying. Something seen only from the air. I'll have to see if that exists or maybe someone here knows.

    checkride and hearing attention

Seems like I might have somewhat given the wrong impression about hearing. It's all a test to see if I can handle distraction and it's so subtle. I'd just rather the banter not be there. I don't carry on conversations in the car and as a matter of fact I don't like to drive when there's much...
