    Sloped runways?!

My last lesson focused on touch-and-goes at ENW, and 7R is especially sloped. Thankfully, the wind was kind to us that day and there was very little other traffic besides an innocent helicopter in the distance. Does anyone else find a downward-sloped runway intimidating? Is there any kind of...

How proper is it for a CFI to interview students?

As a student, I would not consider you arrogant at all for wanting to interview prospective students. In fact, I would respect you more for it. My instructor holds himself to certain standards, where he will expect his students to stay "in the game" whenever they're not in the air (as in...

    Trim down vs. stick down?

Not to mention, my current instructor is very different from my previous instructor. My previous instructor wouldnt take me up in winds such as 8G15KT in a c152. This guy didnt even question 14G23 in a LSA...that was a rough landing...

    Trim down vs. stick down?

Honestly Mooney, the last few times I've flown, it's been too damn windy for any slow flight training to be constructive LOL. I did do a good amount of slow flight training at my previous airport (UGN), but since I've been at RAC, the changing weather vs. a light aircraft has not been very...

    Trim down vs. stick down?

Sry, failed to mention again what type of aircraft I'm in. It's a CTLS, so high wing, and very light. Also did wanna just throw this out there, regarding the "he" thing...I'm not so much lol. Chicks fly planes too, guys.

    Trim down vs. stick down?

Well no, that's what I was curious about. I am being taught to use the trim, but I had read a few things that contradicted (I am now learning erroneously) using trim at all and simply pushing stick forward. Probably just a couple bad articles. That's what my initial question was about, just to...

    Trim down vs. stick down?

I've been doing it like this: power almost to idle, about 1700, carb heat during the base leg, flaps opposite numbers followed by two throws trim. Then turn final, cut power.

    Trim down vs. stick down?

Wow guys, I really appreciate all the thoughts and advice you put into my question! Very enlightening, and your input will be put to good use. And LongRoadBob, thanks for confirming that I'm not totally insane for "over thinking it". While I do agree that in the long run, for more experienced...

    Trim down vs. stick down?

I think its because he always has me trim back before re-entering a pattern, for practice-sake

    Trim down vs. stick down?

The airplane I fly is a CTLS, and on go-around, it's a matter of full power, pull back, deal with flaps once you're back off the ground. I'm lucky that I'm flying a plane that is capable of flying itself for a small time. I've never been instructed to re-trim further than one throw during a...

    Trim down vs. stick down?

I do have another question then...if I don't do those 2 initial throws quickly enough, how huge of an effect will that have on my final, and can i fix that by turning base farther out? During my last class, I had two good landings and one go-around, the go-around being because either a) I...

    Trim down vs. stick down?

You are correct...I have honestly just begun actual landing training. This instructor is very different from my first instructor. Both are very good, but my first instructor had me focus mainly on in-air maneuvers and then would land the plane himself most of the time, whereas my current...

    Trim down vs. stick down?

Ok, so consensus says "trim the heck out of it until it feels right". Got it. Glad I asked!

    Trim down vs. stick down?

See, that's what my instructor was saying...I was just curious today and googled a few questions I came up with regarding landing...I guess i just came across a few bogus articles. Thanks for confirming.

    Trim down vs. stick down?

Only the initial two, but I read a couple articles saying that trim wasn't necessary at all...perhaps the articles were erroneous, or maybe they were talking about AFTER the two throws? As I said, I am flying an LSA, which i only assume would land differently than heavier planes (i just started...

    Trim down vs. stick down?

My instructor likes to have me trim down two rolls immediately after flaps (in a design ctls) on base, but I've read in some articles that this is unnecessary, and to simply push stick forward. Is this a matter of preference? Last time I went up was the first time i did a few touch and go's in...

Not sure where you're located, but I know that in my area, there are a lot of small airports that offer "Skyline tours"--as in, scenic views of the Chicago skyline off the shore of lake michigan. As a tour pilot, you might be able to fly a larger plane, carry more passengers, and have the...

    Any Chance For Me

My instructor has a student that was out for over 20 years. Says he's a great student. The only thing I would say is to keep an open mind. He told me a story about a different student he had a few years back, same situation, but that particular student was very unwilling to learn any differently...
