    Desperately seeking DPE

I'm wondering how big your flight school is? I'm just asking because in my situation, my instructor personally knows the DPE he sets his students up with and it tends to be a fairly efficient process. Keep in mind, I'm with a very small school/flying club out of bum-frick Wisconsin. Is there...

    Student Loans

I always felt that the best way to go is, if you can't feasibly afford something outright, don't borrow money to pay for it. I am reiterating my suggestion of seeking out a possible scholarship opportunity, and also agreeing with others' opinions of doing what you can about flight training with...

Hello from another Illinoisan! Good for you man, so happy for ya! Yes guys, that white stuff is called snow. It's truly an evil presence. It's Satan boogers, and this year, the Devil sneezed early.

Don't forget about the possibility of scholarships! There are a good amount out there for anyone, don't think scholarships are just a thing for fresh high school grads. Search through AOPA, I know they offer some good ones.

    Who else loves short field???

Yyyyyup! That was the first thing my instructor told me about the airport. In fact my instructor actually owns a Champ, I've been up in it a couple times. The grass strip was obviously covered in snow yesterday, but I'm looking forward to trying it out next year!

    Who else loves short field???

Well while the mild sarcasm wasn't absolutely necessary, I won't let it detract from my excitement of a brand new experience that I very much enjoyed. BUT you did spell out plain and simple good things to remember that I will take with me--apprehensiveness is ok, in my book, but yes, no need to...

    Who else loves short field???

No, I didn't list anything. Did you not even read my response? Did you want me to recap my whole lesson for you? I never assumed to know it all. I actually prefer to stay humble. Thanks to those of you who were constructive. I'll definitely look at the recommended videos from Valdez.

    Who else loves short field???

I'm not a fan of long landings, it kinda trips me out. I don't like not having a ton of runway in front of me once I touch down. When I was at 96C yesterday, I almost clipped the edge of the runway a couple times because I kept trying to make sure I had as much length in front of me as possible.

    Who else loves short field???

It would appear that the right thing to do in any given circumstance is just whatever Maule says. Step aside, FAR, there's a new big man on campus.

    Who else loves short field???

And ya know what dude, I was just keeping it short and light. Or did you want me to sit there and type out the entire first half of my lesson where my instructor verbally went over the different procedures for different types of landings and runways, options and responses to emergencies when...

    Who else loves short field???

Here is the OP speaking for herself: I appreciate everyone who has shared their own experiences and advice as to how I can become a more proficient pilot performing short field landings, how to practice even when there's a longer runway, etc. New ways to improve keep me enthusiastic about my...
