Carb ice? (and beating myself up...)

Got it for the first time in the PA-24-250 a coulpe months ago. Clear but high humidity and around 40F. Noticed the MP was about 2" lower than what I set it. Pulled the heat and within seconds got back the 2" of MP. Of course that had me pulling heat every little bit the rest of the flight.

Has anyone ever volunteered at Airventure?

Do you have any specific but less common skills? Language, A&P, ... Volunteering is set up in a lot of fiefdoms so while you can choose the fief, the opportunities are somewhat related to your available skills till you pay your dues. I don't expect you get Tram or Aircraft direction duty...

    Cell phone carriers

My Verizon pricing is comparable. I travel a lot both domestic and interational. Over the last 15 years Verizon has always worked well no matter where in the US. I use a Google FI Android phone for international but Verizon will work for $10 a day

    Lake of the Ozarks

Ah memories! KAIZ was a first college $100 hamburger from KVIH back in 1994. Two newly minted IFR rated pilots in a FBO 172 with VOR / ADF. Didn't realize how far the airport was from the restaurants. Got back at dusk and the runway lights were inop so we had to scoot out. Once airborne...

    Oshkosh Group (Airplane) Camping?

I know specific examples of people who literally never intended to camp - but took up a spot for the entire show 'just in case' they needed to crash out one night during the show and not go home - which was minutes away from the field AND they had access to car parking inside the field so going...

    Oshkosh Group (Airplane) Camping?

Now if all your planes had floats - you'd have a much easier time of group camping at the Sea Plane Base campground. The RV vs. Tent in Scholler is not a new issue, nor local volunteers parking their RVs ahead of the show in the best spots and never camping in them. I can remember my 1st...

Glad you had a great time! Distance and traffic for MSY to downtown is why NEW is the much better airport for GA.

    Garmin GTN650xi Visual Approach

For airports that have LPV approaches that would generally be the preference. There are plenty that don't have them or any approaches at all, including my home airport.

    Garmin GTN650xi Visual Approach

I have the GTN 650 and at least along the northern gulf coast I haven’t found any airports yet where it doesn’t give glideslope. I don’t use it all the time but find it’s a useful reference especially if given a long straight in at a towered airport as an additional descent reference.

Christmas Miracles do happen! The rare greaser Piper Comanche landing!

I was worried. I forgot to turn on my cockpit cam and I knew the battery had to be close to dead on the tail cam. It died just after I turned off the runway

... just don't ask how well the other landing in the flight went. Wife's first ASEL GA flight -- mission accomplished and she said she'll go again.

    ANR headsets with small earcups

Any advice for a quality ANR headset with smaller ear cups? My wife is only 5' 1" and often has to revert to youth size stuff. She just went for her first PA-24-250 ride and main complaint was the headset was much too big on her ears. I'd still like decent passive attenuation since it's...
