Took a puppy home from the pound

This is what I pictured when I first heard the term "rescue dog": Why do they call pound hounds "rescue" dogs when they are actually "rescued" dogs? Over the years I've had three really great dogs, all of which, I "rescued" from the pound.

    A sign of spring

The Blue Angels will be at Sun 'N' Fun this year, performing on Friday, March 31st, Saturday, April 1st and Sunday, April 2nd. The USAF F-35 Demo Team will also be performing. If you're not familiar with it, Sun 'N' Fun is sort of a scaled down Oshkosh and is well worth a visit if you happen...

Cirrus driver opts for urban highway over chute

I understand that a chute pull in a Cirrus does not always result in a soft landing and that the airframe may be significantly damaged by the impact, although occupants escape with minor, or no injuries. Are there any statistics available on how many Cirrus chute-pull airplanes are written off...

Yet another deadly crash in Nepal

I haven't seen Juan's analysis, but while I agree that mistaking the prop levers for the flaps would be unlikely, it would certainly be possible. Remember that these were two captains flying and were used to manipulating these controls with their right hands instead of the left, as was probably...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

That airplane is an RB-57F, and I believe that NASA still operates three of 'em. The USAF used them for high altitude monitoring/reconnaissance, to almost, but not quite, U-2 altitudes.

Chinese Spy Balloon Flying Over the U.S.

The lady down the street is a realtor and is convinced that the Chinese are using the balloon, and others like it, to identify available real estate that is near sensitive military installations. She may have a point: Just a trial balloon.

Airbus 320 loses large piece of elevator

What kind of investigation can we expect from an incident involving an Airbus registered in the Democratic Republic of the Congo? Among others, some of the questions needing an answer would be whether or not the cause was due to some maintenance deficiency or design deficiency.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

A priest, a rabbi, a chicken, a pilot, an auditor, an acrobat, a tatooed lady, a pschiatrist, another chicken, a seal, an aardvark and a partridge walk into a bar ...

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

I always wondered what happened to chickens who lost their wings to a local restaurant, and it's heart-warming to learn that someone has developed prosthetic arms to replace the missing wings. Is this a great country or what? I hope that there is some equally talented individual working on the...

    Cirrus down near Indianapolis N99EC

Hangar or tiedowns in Miami Florida

Under some sort of consent decree reached right after the first runway at Dade Collier was completed back around 1970 or so, the airport was declared to have been environmentally incompatible with the endangered Everglades, and further development was stopped. It was agreed that, to prevent the...

Westchester NY: plane missing, possibly down.

From the article linked in Post #2: "According to the Jewish Chronicle, the pair were on their way to Ohio to attend a funeral." Funerals, weddings, holiday reservations etc. are the cornerstones of an all too often fatal pilot disease ... "Get there-itis" (GT-I). I think we've all heard the...

Westchester NY: plane missing, possibly down.

I agree, and it seemed that the controller was trying to get the pilot to follow some sort of published approach, when steering information should have been to the approach end of the active runway. The problem seemed to be exacerbated by the pilot's wandering headings. But again, I wasn't...

Yet another deadly crash in Nepal

The lack of ILS was probably not a factor in this accident. Let me rephrase that: The lack of an ILS should not have been a factor in this accident (remembering the Asiana 214 crash at San Francisco on July 06, 2013). I don't know about a "wrong stick input"; however, there was obviously a...

Yet another deadly crash in Nepal

Nah, the Ercoupe is different. Only one pedal, and it was, in fact, "just for brakes". Many were owner modified from this as-designed configuration to a more conventional set up with rudder pedals etc.
