    Flying Cars for everyone!

The 1954 Taylor Aerocar is still the closest we have come to a practical flying car. I was lucky enough to see one fly into the Antique Days Event at the Ocean Reef Club airport (North Key Largo, Florida) back in the early 2000s. I believe the car/airplane was based in Kissimmee, Florida at...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

I cringe every time I see an image of a young child with a swimming pool in the background. I hope the parents have taught the child to swim or at least given it "drown-proofing" training.

    Too many panels . .

Important information can be gleaned from a disciplined scan of a steam gauge panel which only takes a second or two (if that long); however, glass panels, from what I've read (I have no personal experience with them) seem to require switching between screens/displays to obtain equivalent...

It sounds like fun to me. I not only have the airplane disease, but also the classic car/hotrod disease. I'm beyond all hope.

Build the largest you can afford and that zoning/AOA restrictions will allow.

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

I guess I'm a bit of a Luddite since I still use both my GPS and paper maps/charts. The old full color-printed charts (both nautical and aeronautical) are works of art, in my opinion. I still use them to plan occasional road trips and dream of exotic journeys/destinations. Nowadays, I check...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

I like mile markers because it gives me the distance remaining without taking my eyes from the road. In VMC I like to look at the road/traffic, but in IMC, I'm parked somewhere.

    Cessna 182Q Crash, Reliance, TN

"An Airworthiness Certificate was issued for this 182Q on 12/15/2018 ... ". Is there a difference between a 182Q and a "Q model"? The pilot was a well-known and well-regarded physician, and his death is a big loss to his community. R.I.P.

    Cessna 182Q Crash, Reliance, TN

An Airworthiness Certificate was issued for this 182Q on 12/15/2018, so I'm guessing that this was a fairly new aircraft and not one of the older "legacy" Cessnas. This would indicate that the 4-1/2 year old airplane was in pretty good shape structurally, and as pointed out by Jeff Oslick...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

Although unknown to the populace at large, you have been confronted with a most powerful force of nature: "The most useful tool is the first to be lost, destroyed or "borrowed" never to return." R.I.P. cherished tool. I think there's a pun lurking somewhere within that second sentence, but I'm...

Other than looks and a minimal increase in cruising speed, what are the advantages of wheel pants? I can think of several disadvantages, such as preflights you mentioned above.

L-139 Down, Texas, 4/19, Two Seriously Injured

The L-139 was a factory enhancement of the venerable L-39, and very few were ever built. The crash of a jet aircraft usually results in a smoking hole, but the airframe in this crash appears to be quite recognizable as an actual aircraft. Whomever was flying this thing, apparently flew it all...

YouTuber on the 1500 Hour Rule. What Do You Think?

In my relatively untutored opinion, too many pilots (ATP and otherwise) these days seem to lack an interest in acquiring a "feel" for the aircraft they are flying. There are many reasons, among which, were the early Airbus aircraft whose sidestick controls had no feedback response to manual...
