    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

That would be a joke on say, November 13th, but not so funny on September 13th, three days after the peak for Florida hurricanes. Ehhh, maybe I'm just old and cranky and can no longer take a joke. Nice image, however.

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

I believe the engines can can be bore scoped in place; however, I would think that they would be removed to facilitate what will be a very complex air frame repair.

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

It's likely that the damage goes beyond the vertical stabilizer/ fuselage joint. I'm guessing it's a a write off, but as pointed out by "jordane 93" above, anything can be fixed if your throw enough money at it.

That's why staying "On The Lines" is so important.

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

I guess that I've failed to make myself clear that I'm talking about the taxiway/taxilane center lines, not runway hold short lines. The aircraft nose wheel should be in line with the centerline, which, as shown in Post #1 of this thread, it clearly is not. It's WAY off.

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

As I recall from my days at MIA, much attention was spent on ensuring that nose wheel lead lines provided adequate wingtip clearance from any aircraft expected to use the airfield. I remember there was much gnashing of teeth, spirited discussions etc. getting ready to receive our first A-380...

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

Although possibly not a factor in this incident, it appears from the Photo in Post #1 of this thread, that Endeavor 5526 was way off of its lines at the hold short position. As large as they may be, airports are quite short of space, and taxiway nosewheel lines allow for safe taxiing, although...

2 Delta workers killed at ATL after tire explosion 8/27/24

Interesting video ... but scary as hell! Everything looked O.K. after the "emergency" stop, until it wasn't. I was amazed that everything looked fine for several minutes until suddenly, tires started exploding. Oh, speaking of exploding tires, Valujet 592 had an inflated aircraft tire in its...

Nah, those are both assault rifles according to the ATF and NYT.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

"Eh,that's just a reflection of the blue sky overhead, PROOF that all aircraft should be banned", said the envirowarrior. Or it could be a boat trying to minimize its time spent in a 'No Wake' manatee protection zone.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

The unwrapped Baby Ruth floating in the country club swimming pool was one of the highlights of the movie, "Caddyshack" ... not to mention the background music from "Jaws".

As I dimly recall, Akroyd's line was " ... and some dry WHITE toast". The "Blues Brothers" is one of the best movies and the best sound tracks ever ... in my opinion.

A revolutionary way to fly a helicopter (and soon planes?)

Back in "The Day" (e.g., Vietnam) folks were surprised to see that brand new students in both fixed wing and rotary wing training soloed at 8-10 hours. As I recall, as a Warrant Officer Candidate, if you took more than 12 hours to solo, you were back to humpin' a "ruck" in the boonies.

What's wrong with a dutch roll in a passenger jet?

A swept wing aircraft can react abruptly (and not in a good way) to a skidding turn, whereas in a dutch roll, the aircraft tries to correct its flight path, which can also lead to a loss of control. It's been 15 or 20 years ago, but I was doing my evening rounds at MIA and witnessed a B-707...

    Interesting new Florida law.....

The states have absolutely no authority over the National Air Space. That is the purview of the federal government.

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

To the best of my limited knowledge and recall, Robins AFB was never a SAC Base; however, it was a depot level maintenance base where they basically rebuilt "tired" airframes. They do have a really nice museum there which features a B-52 in the outside display area. It's a really nice aviation...

Like North Vietnam, The Lord of the Flies never signed the Geneva Conventions.
