Video and Discussion - Burley, ID accident. Was "Gryder"

I'm talking about the point from about 44:00 onward. Yes they took off special VFR, but when they went to Burley and flew the actual LNAV approach it was clearly in and out of the clouds the entire time, IMC (yes I meant IMC not IFR). The pilot even made a comment "I probably should have flown...

I thought the same thing - that was straight IFR for almost the entire practice approach.

That's a good point, I have seen those examples as well.

Video and Discussion - Burley, ID accident. Was "Gryder"

I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around how someone could reach the MDA, see the landing environment in front of them, but then descend into the fog from the stack. The geometry of it doesn't make sense to me. Maybe Gryder answers this in his video, if I can find an hour of my...

Video and Discussion - Burley, ID accident. Was "Gryder"

This is why it's a good idea for towns/cities to have airport commissions or boards - that way the people on the commission can help relay information to the other applicable parties (planning board, city counsel, etc).

Red Bull Pilots to Swap Planes in Midair

The letter seems to be directed to the pilot himself, stating that the pilot filed the petition. I would hope he saw the denial letter, but that is a question I had as well.

Da-40 crashes in Utah, 4 dead

Looking at the photos, pilot was all of 200. Other male was at least 170ish, and the two females really hard to say. W&B seems like a possibility for sure. Flightaware track log only shows them gaining 850 ft in the first 4 minutes of flight prior to crashing.

It's unfortunate that the suspension is only for 1 year, but glad to see some action.

    Mooney down in New Jersey

Based on the oil spill in the sidewalk, I think we can say it had oil.

China Airlines goes down with 132 souls on board

Based on the vaccine and CCP comments, more like the China Qnion. :)

China Airlines goes down with 132 souls on board

Remember the flight track shows ground speed. If the airplane is in a steep descent but the ground speed doesn't change, then the airspeed is almost certainly increasing.

    Cherokee in Savannah River

They definitely aren't as susceptible as say a Cessna, but it still happens. I have a Cherokee and over the years have started using carb heat in the pattern and descent, after hearing instances of it happening. Just a possibility thats all. Hopefully the prelim points to something obvious!

    Cherokee in Savannah River

Another possibility is carb ice. He spent a decent amount of time at traffic pattern speed & power.

    Antonov AN-225 Mriya Destroyed

According to the chief pilot it may not actually be destroyed? Not sure what to take of that... whether that just means it's not completed destroyed and can be fixed, or that it wasn't damaged at all. Hard to find accurate information from over there. Edit, looks like Ukraine's foreign minister...

    Cessna 205 Engine popped

I have been doing this very thing lately. I'm in the midwest (flat terrain, airports are roughly 800-1200AGL), and I find myself flying more in the 6500-9500 range for anything over ~70 miles. I also change my route slightly to put my flight path over more airports. Some may call it overkill...

    Engine out at KLZU

Thanks for sharing your story. In a way it's reassuring when you find the exact problem. Nothing is worse than having random engine troubles and not being able to find the cause - it leaves you worrying when/if it'll happen again.

    Taylorcraft down California

Another thing that I don't know if anyone mentioned is you can see the pitot line disconnected in the cockpit. Doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the crash, but at least chalk it up to another bit of odd'ness to this story.
