    Powered Headsets

I love my headsets but occasionally have had the batteries die on approach. Very distracting to have to reach into bag and change batteries. I could change them before every flight and this is clearly the cheapest option to avoid the problems. Or I can get the 6 pin outlet installed into my...

How would you fly to Halifax from New Jersey ?

Gran Manan was my thought too...of course, if clouds lower than 9000, gliding range would be diminished. We often fly over hostile terrain for a few minutes out of gliding options...

How would you fly to Halifax from New Jersey ?

I'm thinking about flying, when it gets a little warmer from New Jersey to Halifax, CYHZ. I'm instrument rated and will be flying a Mooney. There seems to be this pesky thing called either the Atlantic Ocean or the Bay of Fundy in the way. The shortest reasonable route might be over Gran...

Why is LDA RWY 33 at KMTN LDA (and not an ILS) approach ?

I see them on the plate, but the DH is pretty low (250 ft). I didn't know obstacles close in made an ILS a LDA ???

Why is LDA RWY 33 at KMTN LDA (and not an ILS) approach ?

Looks to be lined up with Rwy. Final approach course is 326 degrees and rwy is 326 degrees per chart supplement. Any thoughts ?

ILS OR LOC/DME Y RWY 19 at KRUT

The problem is without DME (or GPS in lieu thereof) no way to fly published missed. What is strange to me, too, is that a similarly named approach--ILS or LOC/DME RWY 16 at KECP (pasting the link below before you yell at me...) http://aeronav.faa.gov/d-tpp/1702/10416ild16.pdf#search=KECP states...

ILS OR LOC/DME Y RWY 19 at KRUT

You wouldn't. You can't. But it'd be pretty easy to miss this point when you briefed the ILS approach. You'd want an easy way to know DME required. Certainly no note in the plan view...

ILS OR LOC/DME Y RWY 19 at KRUT

How would the approach be called if the DME applied only to the LOC portion? Anyone have an AIM reference which indicates DME applies to both?

ILS OR LOC/DME Y RWY 19 at KRUT

Doesn't the DME apply to LOC approach only ?

ILS OR LOC/DME Y RWY 19 at KRUT

Maybe I'm missing something, but this approach seems confusing to me, at least using NACO charts. If you are flying the ILS without DME (and without GPS in lieu of DME) how could you identify FAROX on the missed ? I don't see any note that says DME or RADAR required for the ILS ?

Do you need to listen to station identifier if PFD (e.g. Aspen) identifies it ?

Any reference to where aim says this? Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

Do you need to listen to station identifier if PFD (e.g. Aspen) identifies it ?

O.k. so do you have to listen to identifier for a VOR you are using for approach or is nav receiver identification adequate ?

Do you need to listen to station identifier if PFD (e.g. Aspen) identifies it ?

Suppose you set up for an ILS, tune the ILS frequency and the PFD shows the identifier corresponding to the ILS. Do you still need to listen to the identifier to verify the ILS is working ? How does the PFD (e.g. the Aspen) know the identifier of the station you've tuned ? Thoughts ?

How to fly ILS 01 at KALB from CIRRU ?

Anyone know examples of other approaches without definitive guidance along depicted (bold-line charted) segments of approach course ?

How to fly ILS 01 at KALB from CIRRU ?

Let's keep on topic. I brought this approach up for discussion because I haven't seen too many approaches where there is an approach course without definitive guidance along all portions on the depicted course. The consensus seems to be to fly from CIRRU to IYIYO either by flying a heading of...
