If youre going to make nonstandard turns in the pattern you need to let ATC know..and get approval...I am feeling too lazy to open the rule bible...but its got to be in there....or at least out of abundance of safety. Anyhow...who knows what was said and done. Who got approval to land first...

Hopefully they will determine the errors that lead to this. It does not make sense to do a simulated engine out in a busy pattern with 2 runways being used and helicopters in the mix...but how else to explain the short base turn of the PA28 after 10s of good pattern turns. Tower communication...

Its so annoying. This sort or nonesense moron crap makes my friends and family not want to fly on GA panes. Huge disservice to all of us that work hard to stay safe in GA. FAA should have pulled the plugs from that plane and slashed the tires.

I think it was already at a steep bank angle before brushing the palm trees. If you look at the street view, I think it's unfortunate, they have very elevated power lines right over that area especially from the direction he was coming from. I guess the investigation will easily show if he hit...

Thanks for sharing this. Looks(street view) like there are many power lines in the direction they were flying just prior to the crash. If he was trying to land on that road that is awful and maybe explains why they were spinning at high speed. Just an extra element of bad luck. RIP

Tough crowd. Sure perhaps it did involve icing....although I thought the indication was that there was no reported icing in the area(granted does not mean icing was not possible)....What we do know is that there was a non instrument rated pilot, without a weather briefing, landing at an airport...

Maybe take this to a deicing topic. This accident did not involve any icing.
