    ADS-B question from a non-pilot

...to complicate matters, you could consider the new Seattle Avionics PingBuddy 2, a $149 pre-built, micro, stratux. Uses GPS in your cellular-enabled tablet. USB power from "cigarette lighter" or use a snicker-sized battery.

    Alaska/Canada Adventure

Two friends have started their latest flying adventure, flying from Tucson to Northern Alaska, and then across Northern Canada and down to OSH. They are flying a 172. It's a "shakedown flight" for a trip to Panama/S.America next year. A couple years ago, they flew 2 CT's (Light Sport) from...

    C310 down at KSNA

Here's some great "journalism"... this guy has to go back 36 years to find 7 accidents, so he can sensationalize this incident. http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-john-wayne-accidents-20170630-story.html

Cessna 182 Uneven Fuel Burn - Is It The Vent Or Is It....

All high-wing gravity fed aircraft seem to have this "problem". Of course, there is a tiny chance of obstruction or kink, but the culprit is probably un-coordinated flying. In our older CT aircraft, we have only "on" or "off", so we monitor the levels and fly with the ball maybe 1/2 out, one...

    Good-Bye GoDaddy

Jim, It's like you're asking to drive, but don't want to know about all those goofy pedals and controls. Sometimes domains/hosting/DNS gets complicated. Or txt records, Cname records, or MX records. It can take numerous calls and/or emails just to transfer a domain, or fix something that "the...

    Good-Bye GoDaddy

There is no magic bullet. They all suck, and 80% of them are owned by the same few groups. And if they haven't been assimilated, they will be. Google any hosting/name provider and the words "sucks" or "problems" and you'll see. At least with GoDaddy, they have clear-speaking clear-thinking...

    Where should I fly next :) ?

UT25 is Private, but wide open. They have a liability form on their website, but it's never been an issue with dozens of people I know who've landed there. Be nice and tip well. You can call or CTAF for a ride up to the restaurant, if you don't want to walk...

    USB power strip

I'd get something like this, but with at least on usb C, since they are heading in that direction. Most have intellicharge, so they automatically charge each device at the best current. Plus another normal A.C. multi-outlet. I wouldn't put a lot flammable stuff around it, since any battery can...

iPad battery depleting even when hooked up?

Try the combo (pad/charger/cable) in your car, and see if it charges. If so, it's definitely an amperage problem or connection issue. I've used a battery about the size of a Snickers bar, the Anker Astro. It has about the same capacity as the iPad mini, so it should about double your time. We...

    Handheld Aviation Transceivers

+ for Yaesu FTA-230 (update of my FTA-220). I wish it had a Lithium-ion battery, but the NiMh with backup Alkaline pack has worked out. I've been tempted to get the new FTA-450L. Any radio with this many features (icom/yaesu) will be a bit complicated. A little cheat sheet stuck in the...

Did your parents/family support your journey to get a sport pilot or private pilot license?

Dad wasn't a pilot, but loved aviation. He served on 2 versions of the USS Block Island aircraft carrier, and survived the sinking of #1. He was the type of Dad that took us to the end of many runways and just watched aircraft land and take-off. We used to enjoy family meals, watching the...

Running Windows XP on a new computer?

Just get a Windows 7 machine and run it in XP mode. Plenty of W7 machines still for sale, even at Dell. Plenty on amazon, refurb'd, but 10 times more powerful than what you've been running. Heck, it may even run fine in Win7.
