Is there a second engine hour meter?

Sorry if I sound confused... 'cause I totally am. My reading tells me the engine hours meter only records the time "off the ground" by some type of pressure switch in the nose wheel. Is this wrong? But you folks say there is no such thing as an engine hours meter on a C150 so how can it be...

Is there a second engine hour meter?

So, how does the mechanic (yes we will talk tomorrow on this... but) come up with the time on the engine "in air". Would there be a notation in the new logs that state the hours at that point according to some meter... perhaps the one on the round RPM gauge that now reads 5784, and use that for...

Is there a second engine hour meter?

I do but now I'm questioning the seller. Guy owns four planes, is selling two. Been flying for maybe 30 years so he should know what the engine time is or how to compute it. Mechanic says engine was "replaced" in 1994 and log entires prior are missing. Starts with this engine in 1994. Meter is...

Is there a second engine hour meter?

The mechanic doing the pre-buy on the C150 I'm looking at says the time on that engine is 1850 hours. The hour meter in the cockpit, that I saw, said 1680 hours. Is there another hour meter and where is it and which is correct?

    MOGAS and the free overhaul

The notion of my making 30 gallons of MOGAS was just a joke. My point has to do with the fact that, if my plane will run find on 80 MOGAS and I can get it cheaper than AVGAS, is there any reason not to use it and save the $$ for my overhaul. So far, I have not heard any save for one guy who...

    MOGAS and the free overhaul

You add distilled water, agitate like crazy, wait overnight, drain off the water and E10. You lose around 3 points of octane by removing the ethanol so you start with 91 premium to get down to around 88. If 80 is what these older planes will run on you can probably use regular gas and still be...

    MOGAS and the free overhaul

Read an interesting article this morning about how using MOGAS in your plane, assuming it will run on it, can save you enough $$ to pay for your next overhaul. It's also better for the engine in that it has no lead to foul up the plugs. Also, better for the environment, again, because no lead is...

    Plane insurance?

Not sure I understand what you mean. If I call one of these agencies for multiple quotes I cannot call another one? Why not?

    Anyone use AVEMCO?

    Plane insurance?

Can someone recommend a good insurance agent for plane insurance? One who will get quotes from multiple companies. Thanks!

    Headsets?

First, for those that expect me to quit... 1) Did that 33 years ago. Got to solo and dual-cross country and had to stop for business reasons. This time, at 65, I expect to complete what I started. 2) I am buying a small two-seater plane or at least I'm in the process of doing so. BTW: I'm not...

    Headsets?

Looked at the Kore for $170 on Amazon. Very good reviews. Will see about getting some of those when the time comes. Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated, as always.

    Headsets?

Well, it was never a problem back in 1986 when I started taking lessons. The C150 I'm looking at purchasing still has the original stick mic but might be equipped with headphone jacks for two people. I know there were two jacks on the far left side but those may be just for the pilot. Suppose I...

    Headsets?

When I took lessons years ago we never used them. Are they mandatory for training now? I'd much prefer not to use them unless the CFI forces the issue, which he may not, if we can both each each other.

Sales tax on buying a plane?

Interesting how some states, mine included, do not charge property tax on small planes... only a minimal annual registration fee. So, in one way they have enough common sense to realize aviation helps the local economy, but on the other hand, many cities want their GA airports shuttered. It's...

Sales tax on buying a plane?

The check was for the tax or did you mean a photocopy of the check you used to buy the plane to prove what you actually paid for it?

Sales tax on buying a plane?

If I purchase a plane sitting in another state from my own, where do I pay the sales tax? Also, in terms of the local/sate property tax, is it the same as buying a car... whereas (in the case of a car) when you go to register the DMV does not accept the price on the Bill of Sale, they go by...

    ADS-B by 2020?

I would not suggest they were lying. I think the notion of needing to spend another $2000 soon after buying a sub-$20k plane might make the prospective buyer want to either look elsewhere or, as in my case, stop and investigate the matter further. I feel they did me a huge favor.

    After I solo?

I'm not opposed to leaving the plane at the training airport. This would be best in that the closer field has no repair services, no fuel. I could end up stranded there. Easier to drive then have to drag the plain around and the point about it getting darker towards the fall is something to...
