I wiped the inside with my finger and it’s black dust in there.

I normally would do this but that egt gauge was rising continuously which it’s never done. The engine seems to be running fine. My concern is a cylinder overheating if the egt is continuing to climb, damaging the engine.

Actually didn’t check the belly but he wheel pant is white so it’s obvious.

It’s an o-320 engine. It’s definitely exhaust on the wheel pant. I’ve wiped it off and checked it. Also the oil is around 6 where it seems happy.

Curious on this now. If it helps it’s a simple EGT gauge. Full rich it’s been running at the second large indicator line. Gauge says 25 degrees so I was going off that. It wasn’t running that hot before these replacements. If I lean at cruise that gauge goes up even higher.

In regards to this, the mechanic replaced all 4 bottom plugs as he said they were out of spec. There wasn’t any problem before these were replaced.

Any idea how to find this within the engine compartment of the cherokee and can it be done without taking the cowlings off, just opening both sides? Then the procedure from there? If not, guess I'll call the A&P.

Thanks for the replies. I can have my mechanic look at it, but wanted to check if there is something I can t try lubing or whatever first to see if that helps. I'm not even sure where to locate the start within the engine compartment. lol

Yeah the whine noise is awful to hear. Anyway I can troubleshoot that to see if that's the problem? I have two new magnetos, battery is good with the plane off so I'm down to the starter. Curious why it sometimes engages, and sometimes it doesn't.

As I'm a new owner, I'm not sure what happens if the starter doesn't engage or is a bad starter. That is the only thing which came to mind though. Sometimes it engages and sometimes it doesnt and just make the whining noise.
