You need to be prepared for the possibility, nay PROBABILITY, that she may never enjoy small planes and may never fly with you on a regular basis no matter how much experience and time and money you put into it. This may end up being YOUR hobby and passion.. not hers.

Im betting your wife has NO IDEA how many people died in car crashes locally or nationwide in the past two weeks. or how many car crashes/accidents there were in the same time period. Dog bites man - no news. Man Bites dog - big news.

So Who Takes a Breathalizer for Alcohol Every Day at Work?

I've made no such suppositions. But if you somehow feel I'm making those accusations, feel free to explore those feelings and where they might arise from. Regarding this thread, An employer has a draconian, 100% sampling, zero-tolerance approach to detectable alcohol in the workforce. An...

So Who Takes a Breathalizer for Alcohol Every Day at Work?

No.. I didn't. I just chose to ignore it. Its a crappy point that is invalid. Unless you have a union and a contract you are a right to work/at will employee. You agree to it, or you dont work there. You say you'd walk. You might have that luxury where you are. I'm guessing where they are at its...

So Who Takes a Breathalizer for Alcohol Every Day at Work?

Take away who's rights? The employers right to have a drug and alcohol free workplace?

what does a pulmonary embolism feel like?

Email Dr Bruce Chien through this site, or google him for his web page and contact him directly. He can counsel you on the process for keeping your medical certification, or if you go without, at least how to be smart about it.

    Apache down in Texas

I knew some folks from that unit, but not the accident crew. Names were released. One is married to a friend's cousin. They have (he had) twins on the way. Heard nothing but good about how the unit handled notifying the family. Rotormast departed the A/C, and the AC ended up inverted in the...

Is my CFII having me fly the ILS too fast?

So what happens when you aren't flying into a 2 mile long runway? 90 kts is good ILS speed for a spam can.. A Dakota might bleed speed off ok. Try that in a Mooney, Tiger or other slick airframe and you will be going around or breaking something.. Now.. the deflections on the needle.. lets not...

Carrie Fisher Has Cardiac Event During Flight

And all of that is moot if you crap out in the parking lot or the driveway... Again.. hospitals (even the big ones, and I've worked in many) aren't geared up (like EMS) to deal with patients who aren't roomed/bedded...

So Who Takes a Breathalizer for Alcohol Every Day at Work?

Whats invasive and draconian about not wanting industrial workers with detectable alcohol or other intoxicants WHILE ON THE JOB? Sorry.. not sympathetic. I work in a profession where I can lose it all (license, job, reputation, livelihood WITH Public database reporting) if I'm impaired on the...

So Who Takes a Breathalizer for Alcohol Every Day at Work?

If you knew the rules were that draconian WHY would you chance it? He was aware of the rules right? Yes he made a mistake. It also wasn't an uninformed one either. He made a conscious choice to drink to the point that he was going to have detectable alcohol the morning, knowing the employers...

Carrie Fisher Has Cardiac Event During Flight

Parking lot of the hospital is one of the worst places... they are not geared up for events outside of patient care rooms.

What was the most unpleasant part of training for you?

The private license requires a class 3 medical. The urine test for class 3 is for glucose and protein. If there's a drug screen the doc is doing it on his own, not because its required for the medical. I hope he got consent and billed you for it, because its not part of a class 3 FAA aeromedical...

[rant, but not a great one]Engine auto shutoff disablement[/not great rant]

The rental I had, didn't appear to use the starter motor to restart... The cylinders stopped with a fuel charge in them, by appearing to cut off the spark. When starting again, the brain appeared to fire off the appropriate cylinder that was just past TDC to restart it... I could be mistaken...

Balloon Pilot Who Killed 16 in Texas on Drugs, Had Many DWIs

What is impractical about extending medical certification to commercial operations to THIS aspect of aviation? Not enough AME's? No infrastructure? Do commercial lighter than air guys have an undue burden meeting the medical certification requirements that other pilots might not have?

[rant, but not a great one]Engine auto shutoff disablement[/not great rant]

Its all about meeting an efficiency mandate and minimizing idle time. You want to keep the engine on? Turn the AC/defroster on.. the compressor requires the engine running. Try it.. It worked on a rental we had a few months ago.

Balloon Pilot Who Killed 16 in Texas on Drugs, Had Many DWIs

And if your kid was one of the 16? Would you shrug? Statistics are numbers.. until they happen to you. This guy was operating a commercial aviation venture, and had it involved wings, instead of a balloon, he would have needed a medical and a 135 cert. I dont oppose drivers license medicals for...
