I hit a wall - any advice welcome

You should push away from your computer, put the book down, and go fly the airplane. YouTube videos on flying can't possibly make sense if you don't know how to fly.

Afraid to maintain an old plane

I’m sure that there’s a warranty, extended warranty, or a wide variety of warranty options. I’m sure you pay for that, don’t know at what point it’s cost-effective.

Afraid to maintain an old plane

You mean just pop on down to your local Cessna dealer and see what he’s got on the showroom floor? “What’s it gonna take to make this deal today and put you in this brand new Skylane?” Are there waiting lists for brand new airplanes? I don’t know… just askin’… I think there’s a happy medium...

    owner-assisted maintence?

Their insurance company apparently won’t let me go hang out in the FBO’s maintenance hangar and work on my (Experimental) plane, assisted or not, but the AP/IA’s and avionics guys there will come over to my hangar after hours or on weekends and help me out, or I help them, to whatever extent I...

    COVID-19 and medicals

Yeah, that's a good plan. My Class III isn't due for another 18 months....Basic Med is on my list of things to do in that interval....

    Baiting vs trapping

I solved my mouse problem in my storage building by putting in a cat door, setting out cat food, and putting out a couple of nice, heated cat beds. Recruited a couple of well-behaved feral cats in no time and haven't seen a mouse in 18 months.

Afraid to maintain an old plane

At something over $90K (in September 2020 dollars), my instrument-certified RV-9A will do 156 kt at about 7.5 gph at 12,500 to 14,5000. If we're talking Mooneys, They're fast, but they are very tight quarters.

    COVID Vaccine (2)

The studies are vastly underpowered...small sample population with NO long term follow up and notable absence of peer review. What we are mainly using as a foundation for our giddy excitement is press releases from Moderna and Pfizer.

    COVID Vaccine (2)

Yeah, I'm first in line too, but I'm not sure if I'm going to get the vaccine or not. Not because of the FAA, but because of the weak-ass science and the very substantial political overlay. I'm not sure if the hospitals where I work will require COVID vaccination or not...that will be interesting.

Or...you could just call them on the phone.

    COVID-19 and medicals

Certainly the FAA has given ALL pilots a reason, many reasons, to be wary of their entire Aeromedical process. I don't think it's "looking for trouble", I think it a prudent concern on the part of anyone who values their medical certification to fly an airplane.

    COVID Vaccine (2)

The question in my mind is "how does the FAA feel about a vaccine that is approved under an Emergency Use Authorization?"

    COVID-19 and medicals

Anti-malarials have virtually nothing to do with anti-viral vaccines. That said, I've never mentioned influenza nor any other vaccine that I've ever had, or routinely get. Of course, those are all FDA-APPROVED vaccines. Not part of a trial, not experimental, and not approved under an Emergency...

    COVID-19 and medicals

That would be just adding to the rumor mill. Suffice it to say that I was pretty skeptical about COVID vaccination anyway just based on the science (or lack of it). The FAA did nothing to add to my comfort level.

Afraid to maintain an old plane

I don't know...I found aircraft ownership in general to be a daunting prospect. I've owned pieces of airplanes over the last several decades, but this RV is the first one I've owned all by myself where all the decisions (and expenses) are on me. As it turns out...aircraft ownership is indeed...

Afraid to maintain an old plane

The thing I like about owning a plane is the convenience of not having to schedule it, but given the right flying club/association/partnership, or even the right FBO/airplane rental..those could be superior alternatives. The thing that pushed me to aircraft ownership was the fact that no such...

    COVID-19 and medicals

You'd think so, wouldn't you?...and of course, the Federal Government always uses such impeccable and readily apparent logic in its regulatory decision-making and enforcement.
