1st Class Medical with 2 Alcohol incidents

I adhere to FARs on the subject, but otherwise don't refrain from alcohol at all. I just don't ever do stupid ****, like driving, while doing so. That's never seemed like a hard task to manage and has never imposed a significant burden on my lifestyle.

    Contract signed, now what?

The finance company will do the title search if you don't, but you should. AeroSpace Reports does a good job and is cost efficient, especially if you're an AOPA member. Look here : https://www.aopa.org/go-fly/aircraft-and-ownership/buying-an-aircraft/aircraft-title-and-escrow-services . I...

1st Class Medical with 2 Alcohol incidents

In striving for the lowest possible accident rate, the FAA appears to be embracing the concept that the fewer people that they let fly, the lower the accident rate will be.

    Mom’s In the hospital

They can't call anyone without her express permission. Can't even call the emergency contact unless it's an actual emergency. Any health care facility pays a STEEP price for a HIPPA violation.

    owner-assisted maintence?

Everything I've done with my A&P so far, he's been the one to print the sticker and sign off. I'm in the middle of an EFIS change that I'm doing....I'll sign that one.

    owner-assisted maintence?

Seems like airplane maintenance instruction should be something that an A&P ought to charge for. I wouldn't expect that to be free. I see owner-assisted as different though, such as when you deliver the airplane with the cowl and all the inspection panels off.

    owner-assisted maintence?

When doing owner-assisted maintenance, do you charge by the hour, or by the job?

    Uh huh...yep. That's what I meant.

    COVID Vaccine (2)

Don't know if it's still done this way, but last spring in New York (at least), if you had COVID or were a PUI and got killed in a car accident, you got listed as a "COVID-related" death. I think that it's entirely reasonable to believe that statistics surrounding COVID19 are extensively...

    Chuck Yeager Flies West.

Chuck Yeager was an excellent-to-exceptional, courageous pilot. He served his county with honor and he deserves our respect. The legend that Chuck Yeager became was created by Tom Wolfe. "The Right Stuff" is about 90% of who we believe him to be. Not that that is a bad thing....the country needs...

    COVID Vaccine (2)

"Underlying medical condition" covers a lot of ground. Obesity (BMI greater than 30) is one of those conditions and about 40% of the US population is obese.

    COVID-19 and medicals

I'll honestly answer anything that MedXPress or my AME wants to know, but I have never had either the FAA or the AME ask me about sense of taste or sense of smell, and like many other things, I'm not going to volunteer it.

    owner-assisted maintence?

Maybe. Probably. But I don't really care. I'd rather do it in my own hangar anyway, after hours and on weekends. Works for me, works for him. My airplane is an RV. I'm not required to use an A&P for any maintenance except annual condition inspection, but I didn't build it and I know very little...

1st Class Medical with 2 Alcohol incidents

I don't think the FAA cares about expunged records. The question they ask is "have you ever...". You have to answer, and you can't lie.

    COVID-19 and medicals

What should scare you, if you're a pilot, is that lack of official position. It means that your choice might still be either EUA vaccine or loss of your medical. You should email the FAA and remind them of 14 CFR 61. I hope that isn't all you have though...apparently the FAA isn't impressed...

1st Class Medical with 2 Alcohol incidents

I don’t know if you “need” AA or not. I do know that as you move through this FAA Medical process, there are going to be a lot of people who are going to be looking closely at you, and many or most of them don’t care a bit whether or not you ever sit in a cockpit again. Attending AA is a...

Afraid to maintain an old plane

Experimental aviation is very cool in that it affords a huge degree of freedom for a lot of people to push the edge of the envelope and explore aspects of aviation that just aren’t available to pilots flying certificated airplanes. I do admire those who have the patience and the ability to spend...
