    Covid experience...

Around here, after exposure (closer than 6 feet to an infected person for 15 min), a positive test means you're out for 10 days. No test means you're out for 14. If you test negative on day 5 after exposure, you can come back to work on day 7. Test negative twice after 3 days and you can come...

Guest Host - C.W. Lemoine tonight at 7pm eastern

“Make them tell you NO”. Always good advice. CW Lemoine is about the only internet aviation guy I’d like to sit down and have a beer with. Maybe Mike Patey, but I suspect he doesn’t drink beer, and I suspect that the conversation would ultimately be exhausting. He’s a high-energy guy.

    Covid experience...

Four of the Nurse Practitioners that work in my department had COVID, the most recent was about 3 weeks ago. All were back at work after 10 days, no sequellae. I've been tested 3 times. In the hospital Med/Surg unit, we've had some staffing issues but it's much more often from quarantine due to...

Bought a plane, told to form an LLC. Your input welcome.

My current CFI was my business's CPA and my personal accountant for 25 years. He owns three planes. When I was looking to buy a plane we talked about ownership strategies a lot....bottom line...don't bother. You can't protect your personal assets any more effectively than with a good liability...

    Aircraft ownership and Tax issues

Sometime the mill levy will even vary from town to town, or school district to school district in the same county. It also might be assessed based on where the airplane is hangared rather than where you live.

    Aircraft ownership and Tax issues

The Use Tax is a one-time tax you pay when you buy the plane. It's typically the same as your local sales tax rate. The Personal Property Tax is a tax that you pay annually and varies widely from state-to-state. As you say...in Georgia it's 40% of the market value multiplied by the millage rate...

Famous (and infamous) people.. who are pilots

Everybody needs a hobby. Some people like to fly, some people like to build. Personally, I don’t care what the “intent “of E-AB is. If the FAA is happy, I’m happy. Isn’t that how the saying goes? “FAA – we’re not happy until you’re happy”? Personally, I’m happy that I’m able to fly an...

Prebuy mechanic said take pants off...

Two big potential problems that I've had with my airplane and its "pressure recovery" wheel pants....flat tires, and slush. Both can provide a significant beating to the wheel pants. I can't speak to grass as I've never landed the thing on grass before (although the previous owner did that...

I agree with that, and it gives me confidence in my RV. Firewall forward is a plain old Lycoming factory new engine. Nothing about maintaining or inspecting it gives my A&P even the slightest pause.

    COVID Vaccine (2)

He wrote than on December 3rd. That was at a time when the FAA was still being coy and said they'd wait for the EUA to be actually issued before they announced whether or not a COVID vaccination under an EUA would result in your medical being suspended. It wasn't until December 11 that the EUA...

Famous (and infamous) people.. who are pilots

Wow! Nice! I didn’t have to go nearly that deep. Even so, I found myself wondering if I could teach my 7 year-old granddaughter to drill and rivet. eta: between my Avionics guy, my A&P, and my CFI, I'm the smallest. Tailcone is my baby, sadly.

So, it is being flown in a training environment, you’re just the only one training in it. Still, a high percentage of its flights for awhile are going to be done by a 35 hour student pilot.

Famous (and infamous) people.. who are pilots

That’s a really good overview, thank you. I don’t disagree with anything you wrote there. The current Van’s concept of match drilling, final drilling, quick-build, and the wide variety of pre-made parts availability makes Van’s aircraft more of an “assembly” than a “fabrication”, or so they say...

Famous (and infamous) people.. who are pilots

In Denver’s plane, the builder relocated the fuel selector, deviating from the plans, and that caused or contributed to the crash. Even in a match-drilled Van’s RV “assembly” (rather than “fabrication”), a builder might very well decide to do something like that, and has the freedom to do it if...

Letter from FAA for Poison Ivy treatment

Good lord...a visit for poison ivy? It wouldn't even have entered my mind to list that on MedXpress. My MedXpress forms and my discussions with my AME are VERY selective about what's included. Prednisone for poison ivy would be a "don't ask, don't tell" item.

I remember "I Love Bob" and as a kid, enjoyed the (relatively) racy dialogue. Cummings was a meth addict for most of his adult life. No HIMS program at the time.

    When Selling Plane- Test Flights?

Nice! I just had a nice man from India, who happens also to be an IRS Enforcement Agent, call me to offer to help keep me from being arrested for "irregularities" in my IRS account. He called just in the nick of time, since the FBI was on its way to arrest me. Fortunately, I was able to clear up...

He was flying an Experimental Long EZ. A kit aircraft. The original builder had deviated from Rutan's plans and placed the fuel selector in a different location.

Someone almost pulled off a Ford

Probably a blessing. The 4500 was 10 years old. It's the curse of modern avionics...replacement becomes an ongoing maintenance expense that has to be planned for. OTOH, most of the flight instruments on the FBO's training 172M's are the same gauges the plane came with.
