Entering the pattern and overflying airports

I think there are a lot of right, safe ways to enter a pattern, including that used by the OP in his example. In his example, I would have just entered a left downwind on the 45, assuming there was nothing untoward that I had heard on CTAF for the previous 10 miles, and that my intentions jived...

The ups and downs of airplane insurance

Yeah, I don't know if that's a real thing or not, but I guess I'll find out with my next renewal.

    Eye floaters?

Unless it's intrusive to your vision, it's an example of something you should NOT enter in your MedXPress form for a medical certificate.

The ups and downs of airplane insurance

The lowest quotes that I received were from AIG, and from the two brokers, the premiums were within $150 of each other, and I had named my CFI/buddy on it. The more expensive of the two included both an Open Pilot Warranty and a Subrogation Waiver, and I went with that one.

The ups and downs of airplane insurance

I went to several companies for quotes as well as a couple of brokers. Both BWI (Haley Peek) and Gallagher (Leah Ringeisen) shopped the market and ultimately quoted AIG as cheapest, which came in at 1/2 the premium of any other company and less than half of Avemco. Avemco was by far the most...

Should I be concerned? Cracked nut & washers on the top of O-300d

Do you believe that this engine doesn't need to be borescoped?

    My breast cancer journey begins

I’m not aware of any state where releasing biopsy information immediately is a law, but it’s possible. Not in this state, however. Usually that kind of information isn’t available in the patient portal until released by the physician. Other lab tests usually are, however. Visit notes...

Should I be concerned? Cracked nut & washers on the top of O-300d

Concern for corrosion on cylinders and cam lobes would be my reason for the borescope. Obviously.

Should I be concerned? Cracked nut & washers on the top of O-300d

OP will find out for sure when he has the engine borescoped while it’s in annual or during the pre-buy.

    Sexism in aviation?

Agreed. I'm just a community private pilot and have been one for over 50 years, but I'll say that the OP is welcome in my little corner of the world anytime. My ex-CPA who is now my CFI has about 15 students at the high school level who have gone through ground school with him and are now at...

Should I be concerned? Cracked nut & washers on the top of O-300d

Agreed....the OP could just replace it and fly on...after he makes sure that his pre-buy includes a a startup and runup, then oil change with oil analysis and a borescope. A Continental sitting unflown for three years...worrisome.

    Sexism in aviation?

You’re asking a bunch of men...in many cases old men... on an internet forum about sexism in aviation. That takes real balls. You’ll be fine.

    Medical Marijuana

The FAA doesn't have a problem with CBD oil, they have a problem with THC. The issue is that, since CBD oil isn't regulated or tested, some CBD products that are supposedly hemp-derived only actually have some measurable level of THC in them. CBD oil is Federally legal if it has less than 0.3%...

    Medical Marijuana

So if you're using medical marijuana, authorized by a doctor or nurse practitioner in your state, and some government agency asks you if you're using illegal drugs....the answer is "yes". ("authorized", because marijuana, medical or otherwise, is Schedule 1, therefore illegal, and can't be...

    Medical Marijuana

But marijuana is a Schedule 1 drug and regardless of what individual states may say, it remains Federally illegal to use it, possess it, or prescribe it.

Hangar Space May Appear Sooner Than Later

At our local airport here in vacationland Minnesota, hangars are rented on a month by month basis. In the fall, many vacancies appear as the snowbirds pack up their airplanes and fly south. Then there's a mad scramble for hangar space in the spring when they come back.

Ownership anxiety, how did you prepare yourself? Need your advice.

A club as you describe would have been great, and might have made me go that route instead of outright purchase, but that option wasn't conveniently available to me in this location. There wasn't even an option for renting a plane for an overnight trip.

Ownership anxiety, how did you prepare yourself? Need your advice.

Yeah...that was me too. I just took a leap of faith, believing that I had the resources (intellectual and financial) to survive. I learned a few important lessons: buy an airplane and it is highly unlikely, no matter how diligent your pre-buy is, that it won't cost you money and time to deal...

Ownership anxiety, how did you prepare yourself? Need your advice.

My plane is Experimental, so in addition to knowing what to do, I've also been learning how to do it...I got pretty comfortable with the basic in's and out's from reading a lot. There is a ton of such info all over the internet. Then my CFI transition trainer, who is a good friend and really...
