    HSI vs. CDI

Any chance of getting an transformer to step up the voltage to from 12V to 28V? Our very early model G430 was 28 volt only and Garmin had a 3rd party transformer to adapt to 12 volt airplanes. Maybe you could contact them to see if it would work for your application.

    YouTube guys

I have been watching Mikey McBrayn’s YouTube Plane Savers channel. They were resurrecting a neglected DC3 to get it airworthy for D-Day. I think they are taking the plane to OSH this year. Anyway, at the 11:00 minute mark - he summed up the YouTube revenue from this channel. In a little...

    My Avidyne upgrade journey (IFD550 & IFD440)

We don’t update the obstacle data base every month and the 440 does not support charts - that is why ours is a little less. We will probably pick up the obstacle database at some point or just update once a year. The Jeppesen guy went over the options on the phone with me and I just picked one...

What is the best way to study for the Instrument Written Test?

A thorough review of the ACS is a must - but it is not prep for the written. The material for the written comes mostly from the Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Information, the FAR/AIM and the Airplane flying handbook. They are all free in electronic form and the printed copies are not...

1980 Movie Airplane! Isn't the original you thought it was

I stumbled into zero hour several years ago. I was always amazed at the dialogue in Airplane and always thought it was original. I’m even more amazed the Airplane cast pulled it off.

    My Avidyne upgrade journey (IFD550 & IFD440)

@Martin Pauly I was wondering the same thing. Nag data for our IFD 440 is around $500. The 440 does not support charts.

What is the best way to study for the Instrument Written Test?

Check out @write-stuff signature line. I used their ground school for the commercial written and did very well. The explanations are very good. You can actually learn how to do the problems from them.

    Logistics of Ground Transportation

You may also try PCW. It is a. Little farther but is a bigger airport. They routinely get transient turbine traffic in there. I was in there yesterday. Call the FBO - they are very good people. It is the same group that was at SKY.

Bryan, you should encourage him to join the forum. It would give him an opportunity to be part of the aviation community.

NGT-9000 Lynx ADSB transponder. Got one? Like it? Tell me!

L3 Technologies is a very large company. https://www.nyse.com/quote/XNYS:LLL which may be bad for the opposite reason. This transponder business is so small it may not get any attention or eliminated without any thought. Now that I have one, I would like to see Avidyne buy the product line.

    Electrickery!!!

I had a pair of diagonal cutters that ended up with a perfect 12 gage wire stripper in one side after cutting through live wires after I was “sure” I turned off the breaker.

NGT-9000 Lynx ADSB transponder. Got one? Like it? Tell me!

That is interesting. Avidyne has been pushing the Lynx transponder over their own unit for 6 months. It made me think they are planing to buy the product line. Andy by the way - Avidyne had the same issue with their GPS and the rollover date. We had to wait for the FAA approval on the...

NGT-9000 Lynx ADSB transponder. Got one? Like it? Tell me!

@chemgeek We had a non-WAAS 430 in our panel before the upgrade. When I checked into the Lynx they said you could get traffic to display on the 430 but not weather. You may ask your installer. We decided to go with the IFD while we were into the panel for the transponder and had Other old...

NGT-9000 Lynx ADSB transponder. Got one? Like it? Tell me!

@chemgeek - Nice write up. The shop I worked with had installed a lot of these in a local university’s fleet. I think they mostly did stand alone installations and did not interface with IFDs very often. I had to have ours back to the shop multiple times before Avidyne tech support figured...

    Single Mom focused on Piloting

i would also suggest you contact the Women in Aviation organization. They are very good about mentoring new pilots. https://www.wai.org/ They also can guide you to some scholarship opportunities. You may want to look up the Aviation Careers podcast. They have a lot of good information and...

NGT-9000 Lynx ADSB transponder. Got one? Like it? Tell me!

As Jesse pointed out, yes it does. Make sure your avionics shop is clear on how the transponder has to be wired to the IFD. I was not getting weather on the IFD. I thought it was the gps rollover date issue. I had both the transponder and IFD software updated and still couldn’t get traffic or...

NGT-9000 Lynx ADSB transponder. Got one? Like it? Tell me!

@I Fly Low 'n Slow We put one in our Skyhawk. Especially if you think you are going to replace your transponder - it is worth considering. You spend X amount of money on a regular transponder and key in a four digit code and don't touch it the rest of the flight. Adding the screens that...

The wisdom of flying: random lesson #37

You can also use the stuff for kids. Most of it is is made so it doesn’t irritate the eyes. I used to use it on my forehead and higher power stuff on the rest of my face. Living in northeast Ohio, I’m not sure what this sunshine phenomenon is about. ☁️ ☁️ ☁️

    Another silly question....

I have wondered the same thing. I started programming CNC equipment in the 1980s and "0" degrees was always measured from the positive X axis. Geometry is stored in CAD/CAM systems in the same format. I actually learned navigation for boating on the great lakes around the same time period...
