Flew a C177R Cardinal Yesterday for the First Time

I didn't have any trouble learning to land mine. With the big stab you don't have to pull back very much to set her down so its easy to see how guys that are used to pulling the yoke clear up to their chest to flare could get themselves in trouble. I was actually referring to the 150HP 68'...

Flew a C177R Cardinal Yesterday for the First Time

Lots of 172 jockeys had trouble with porpoising trying to land them and they received a bad rap right from the start. They were also underpowered to start with.

Planning a trip to Nashville and Gatlinburg.

That is pretty much what i'm thinking. Use Uber in Nashville and rent a car in Gatlinburg. Which FBO did you use?

Planning a trip to Nashville and Gatlinburg.

I'm getting married in October and for the honeymoon we are thinking about flying the Cardinal to Nashville for two or three days and then on to somewhere in or around the Great Smoky National Park (probably Gatlinburg area) for two or three more days. I've never been to either area so I would...

I Can! A Cardinal :D I'm 6'3" and I have all the leg room I need and more back there.

    Landings-to-PIC hours ratio

So does that still hold true for a Cirrus driver that pulls the red handle?

Owners, how do you deal with inactivity? (A rant)

    411 0n Cessna 177 Cardnial

I do the same and it seems to be easier to make a smooth touchdown that way. I also only use half flaps most of the time unless I want to really land short.

    Recommend a goal aircraft.

At least you understand that you're looking for a unicorn. Maybe a Comanche? Don't know if $120 an hour is reasonable for that though.

I use mogas almost exclusively. I only buy 100LL if i'm on a xcountry and nobody around has mogas.

That's what I fly. The 68' with the O-320 is typically going to be the most affordable in regards to purchase price and you can get a Mogas STC and save on fuel. Mine does have the powerflow exhaust and that's one mod I would recommend if the one you're looking at doesn't have it already.

Now you can get exploded by a sUAS

Yep, the anti anything within a couple of miles whenever its actually working. The 5" was my baby but my division also owned the CIWS so I spent plenty of time working on it too.

Now you can get exploded by a sUAS

The military has been thinking about this potential problem for a while. During my last year in the Navy (2012) my ship took part in exercises to test our ability to detect and destroy small UAVs very similar to the ones in the article. We shot 2 down with our 5" gun and 2 with the CIWS without...

Need help deciding on plane purchase

I have seen a couple of Stinson 108's with basic IFR panels but that seems to be the exception. https://www.barnstormers.com/classified_1393261_1946+Stinson.html

    Cherokee 140 empty weight

The W&B for our 65' claims that she is 1296, we haven't had her weighed though so i'm betting she's actually a bit heavier than that.

    411 0n Cessna 177 Cardnial

I don't know how similar to a Tomahawk it is, but prior experience flying something with a stabilator does help. I did my private in a Cherokee 140 and the transition to the Cardinal was pretty easy. The stab on the Card is very effective and its easy to over control which has gotton more than a...

The spar carrythrough needs to be checked for corrosion, but that's part of a good prebuy. If you're looking to buy I would recommend checking out Cardinal Flyers Online. Some very good type specific knowledge there.

I fly a 150 hp Card and love it! The performance isn't spectacular, but she handles beautifully and is hard to beat for comfort. More hp would be nice, but that's true of lots of aircraft.

    A constitutional question for lawyers

I don't have any proof for this, but the vast majority of judges seem to be former prosecutors which would make me think twice about leaving my fate in the hands of one person. I'm sure defense attorneys and attorneys that deal with non criminal matters also become judges but it certainly seems...
