    Your Top Five Coolest Flights

In no particular order: Landing on the dot at Oshkosh solo my first time there 9 months after getting my PPL, sitting on the ramp in El Monte, CA in my first airplane, looking at the Banning Pass and the 1100 miles to get back home, and being totally excited and totally terrified at the same...

    Confused about used aircraft prices

A Grumman Tiger, maybe, but not a Traveler. Most modern day Travelers are going to be somewhere around 1300-1400# empty, add 220# fuel, and your useful load goes down to about 600#. Plus, with the shorter horizontal stabilizer, you don't want too much aft loading with baggage and such. The...

    Distracted and under pressure

It's not a bad idea to get your CFI's take on how close you are getting to PTS standards, especially once you get close to the checkride, but before solo, your goal is to show him/her that you are in COMMAND of the airplane, and can control whatever happens during that time. They aren't going...

    Weight Difference-Steam vs Round

Steam is light, and rises. Glass is heavy, and falls. Question answered? (totally tongue-in-cheek answer).

The "go / no go" decision

Glad that you are asking the question. Good decision making there. There is no one answer, as your experience level and others will be different, as well as conditions always will be. As others have said, do the conditions meet your standards? This is where you have to define those. If...

    Opinions

Don't know why anyone would trade a Tiger for anything else. Looks cool on the ramp, enjoy the sports-car handling of the Grumman in the air. Outfit her with what you need and fly the wings off her. You already know and love it.

    PPL Checkride Experience?

And, to add just a bit to the discussion, if you miss something bad enough that you get a fail on that, decide if you can finish the ride, or would rather just end it for the day. There is no penalty for either option, unless you decide to continue and keep messing things up. I bungled VOR...

    Dallas area tourism

Frontiers of Flight museum at Love Field. C.R. Smith museum near DFW airport (although I've never been there). Also, DFW airport has a great flight watching location on the north end of the field, google the Founders Plaza.

They don't take reservations at Kirby's, but the lady said they don't really fill up until noon or so. I'll try to get over there a little early and lay claim to some tables.

    Documenting every hour

I did a write up of all my lessons, which was shared in a local pilots group forum. It allowed me to capture my feelings as well as document the lesson for me, the days when I mastered something new, or had the dreaded 'cant fly worth crap' day, and it gave other pilots a chance to chime in and...

    Question regarding low oil pressure

"I'm preparing for my checkride in a C-162" I'd hazard a guess you might want to have that checked out before your checkride, cause your DPE will obviously grill you on that.

Considering Grumman Tiger - Grass Strip

Yes, but only if you know the plane very well, and I'd say know the field very well also. Grummans, for all of their really fun flight characteristics, are not really good short field machines.

Ok, if I count right, we currently have AggieMike, JCranford, me and possibly +1, MBDiagman +1, GrahamC +1, Ravioli + 1, Scott@KTYR, Frogs (and tadpoles?), and Flyin'Gator. Kirby's is kinda a small place, so I'll call tomorrow and see if we can reserve some of the picnic tables out on the...
