Hot starts and engine shut downs

This. I wish every hot start procedure list started with: “for Continental engines” or “for Lycoming engines” because they are different! -Skip

    "Target for Today"

This is also true of the Liberty ships. The volume of production was incredible. Although it was more of a PR stunt than status quo, they actually assembled and launched one Liberty ship in one 24 hour day. Go Rosie! -Skip

Jump starting a 'plane with a battery pack

@mandm I don’t know about Cessna, but I believe that the Piper plug takes the battery out of the circuit when it is used. So the answer to your question is “No” for Brand P. -Skip

If you left your 182 in a Marne, Michigan cornfield, the FAA would like to speak to you

Investigators are “working to identify the owner”? Why not just look up the N-number in the FAA database? That part at least is easy… -Skip

    Fuel exhaustion event

Sounds like a Saratoga II. Long, skinny wings resulted in no fuel visible through the filler when there was a lot left. Solution: a factory installed mechanical fuel gauge visible on the ground or in flight. -Skip

C172SP High Oil and CHT Temps

Is the engine carbureted or injected? Were you climbing at wide open throttle? I don’t know about the 172S, but many older Cessnas had a fuel enrichment circuit that would add fuel to the mix when at WOT to help temps remain in the green, at full throttle. Carbureted engines only, obviously...

    Jittery volts/amps

Yes! Make sure your alternator belt is tightened to spec. I had an older Ford car that with the belt tightened with the THAR method, it wouldn’t charge running down the Interstate with high beams on, A/C blasting, etc. About every 15 miles I had to pull over, shut everything down ‘cept the...

My HP 9015e advertised scan to email but the machine will not do that. No apologies from HP, not even a shoulder shrug and a half-hearted “sorry”. Other than that, it is a great machine! -Skip

    Purple Marten Housing

Does the active ingredient work on junior high school aged males, too? J/K! Ok, more seriously: A few houses ago, I had a house that had several rain filled ponds. Puddles is more accurate. The Bacillus Thuringensis (spelling of this word could be wildly incorrect) active ingredient of the...
